I think the links to existing avatars got broken when the site was transferred to a different server. I re-uploaded mine. If you don’t see a picture in the square for your avatar, you probably need to do the same. Let’s see if mine worked. Cool. She’s 6 – going on 18. (and standing on a box to reach the stove top)
I tread lightly here, but perhaps it would be better to turn off avatars. From my experience at the NOM boards, I know they can sometimes get hard to “moderate”. It might be best to start right off without them. I think the visual images helps connect people and personalities in this anonymous online world. Don’t worry too much about moderation on avatar images. We have no problem policing things that are not appropriate. While we’re on the subject I wanted to share this cool quote from Leonard Arrington. It is part of the reason for my Avatar. “The human soul, like a charioteer, must drive two horses as it progresses toward Heaven. The horses must work together or the chariot will just go round and round. …It would be unfortunate if either should outstretch the other. Over-emphasizing intellect to the neglect of spirituality, and over-emphasizing faith without the application of reason are both unworthy of practicing Latter-Day Saints. We cannot achieve spiritual excellence without intellectual rigor, and intellectual excellence is hollow without active spirituality. We need to have the spirit as we learn, and we need to have learning as we build faith.
