John is both quoted and photographed at the Book of Mormon show in New York City tonight. A major article appears in the New York Times, posted March 30, 2011. It is entitled; Mormons Try to Relish the Broadway Big Time, Even When it Brings a Cringe. Be sure to read this critique. And thanks John for getting in the limelight…

I did a search and couldn’t find the link to the article, or the video on it. However, earlier I posted a thread on us being the butt of the joke, and the passive lacklustre way we respond to it as a Church. I think responding to the BoM in the media when asked is a way to counter the falsehoods in it, and also share our own message at the same time.

The same way politicians use media opportunities not only to respond to the issue they are being interviewed about, but also, weave in their own platform/agenda. You can do so in a way that doesn’t sensationalize the play and exacerbate the problem.

Here’s the article from the NY Times:

Seems like a really familiar cast of characters that were interviewed for the article — John Dehlin, Natasha Parker, Dustin Jones, Adam Ford, etc. 🙂

Sounds pretty tame. Irreverent, but at least we know South Park does this to everyone. Makes me want to go and see it. Do you really think this makes Mormonism mainstream as one of the interviewees suggests?

Mainstream, but laughable. And we all know TBM’s who are not into loud laughter…

Matt Stone says “A book of scripture can change your life, even if the book consists of made-up stories.”

This reminds me of some of the threads I’ve read here.
