ParticipantHad an interesting comment from someone today. We were talking about spiritual matters around the pool. This man is deeply committed and spiritual, yet has an undercurrent of divergent thinking like myself….we talked about service and I told him my feeble attempts at service lately. I asked him what he does that is meaningful to others, and he said “I answer people’s prayers”. I thought that sounded a bit like a God complex at first, but asked him more about it in a supportive way. He said he asks people what they are praying for after he gets to know them, and if he can support the prayer, he does it. I thought that was an inspiring way of doing service. Naturally, I’m sure people won’t disclose everything they are praying for, and you have to ask that question, and get an honest response, but it was an interesting thought, to align oneself with the prayers of others.

ParticipantA few years ago I realized I would often say to people, “I’m praying for you” or something along the same line. Ten minutes later I forgot I said it, even though I was totally sincere at the time. When I realized it I started making an effort to actually pray for them or their issue. It isn’t quite a serviceable, but I felt more genuine when I did say it. June 22, 2011 at 1:22 am #145798Old-Timer
KeymasterThat’s an awesome practice! I tell people I will pray for them, and then, because of my memory, I pray for “everyone for whom I said I would pray”.

ParticipantI like the idea of taking it one step further and trying to answer the prayer when this is within the realm of my abilities. June 22, 2011 at 1:08 pm #145800Old-Timer
KeymasterAmen, SD. I really, really like that. June 22, 2011 at 4:40 pm #145801Heber13

With the heart being in the right place to accomplish this, I think this is pure religion. I also think there are times we are moved by the spirit to be God’s hands. More often than not, it is through those around us that our prayers are answered, therefore, it makes sense we should be seeking to answer the prayers of those around us.
Thanks SD.
