To Jabari: have a great mission. To the others: don’t feel guilty. There will be other opportunities along the way.

In this article Danny Ainge was quoted as saying, ‘every young man should prepare for a mission but not every young man should go on one.’ Sounds like someone told him playing hoops was mission enough. personally, if it came to playing basketball or going on a mission I know which one I would choose, hint, it doesn’t involve knocking on doors. Jabari, Lebron… who inflicts these names on children? Anyway, I digress. I’d say he should go for it, if he wishes it. After all he could have a sporting career, get an injury early and that would be cut short. Going on the mission gives him the chance of a sporting career, but it doesn’t work the other way round.

NB – bear in mind rugby union and rugby league are different sports. (Sorry I have to point this out to Americans. And don’t ask me to explain the initricate differences. Just suffice to say, it’s a bit like American Football vs Canadian Football. Rugby league has always been professional, rugby union only professional since c. 1995.) Rugby union, i.e. what the All Blacks like Sid Going play, is the main sport of New Zealand. However, rugby league is popular amongst Maori and other Polynesians who coincidentally make up a fair proportion of NZ Mormons. In Australia, rugby league is the main code, not union, but Aussie Rules is the main code in the southern parts of Oz. (Whole different ball game.)
Talking of NZ, it turns out a number of international netballers and basketballers from there seem to be Mormon…
