A Beautiful Easter Testimony (Elder Withlin)

Elder Wirthlin’s analogy of God’s orchestra needing more than just the piccolos to express the full beauty of His creation became an instant favorite of mine the moment he uttered it. I just came across another talk he gave (in the October 2006 General Conference) that touched me just as deeply and brought tears to my eyes as I read it again – and immediately reminded me of this community and all those who struggle in the Church.

I hope it touches you as it touched me on this Easter weekend – especially coming from a life-long, registered Democrat and truly gentle, beautiful apostle of the Master – for whom, I am certain, Sunday has come.

We had F&T today so it is really good to read this. It is talks like this that keeps me stayingLDS. I don’t say this enough mostly because I don’t always have a real belief in the concept but may the spirit of the resurrected Lord tough each of you this day. Thanks for all you guys do and say that help me keep the faith at least how it works for me and letting me share my ideas with you. This site has and does make a difference to me.

There is a lot of personal memories. Your can always fast forward to the reference & meaning of Easter.

I especially like his conclusion:

I’m not either.

I see signs of spring, but I am located in Michigan from Southern California – so the whole “snow and rain” scene was new and exciting at first. Also, the period of time between mid-February and May when the stores are ready for Spring, but you can still get snowstorms (last weekend) and frost on the ground makes one suspicious of “spring”. One of the worst experiences is getting one psyched up for “Spring” only to find the plant that threw up stalks early gets mulched by frostbite and those mittens you bought earlier this week on clearance are actually super useful as you finish your yardwork and crawl back into your blanket nest for another bout of depression:)

That being said, there have been some good things sneaking in stealthily that give me hope for the future. The roots of future positive events are growing.

This talk is one of my top ten all time favorites by one of my favorite all time apostles. Wirthlin was ahead of his time, but I’m grateful he was.

I read this talk on those occasions where my own life seems to be like that dark Friday. Sunday will come.
