One thing that gets me is the insistence in using ‘job titles’ – So I have seen my local Bishop insist people call him ‘Bishop’ during conversations, same goes for stake presidents insisting in people calling them President.

IMHO anyone who has to insist on a badge is abusing their power. It says ‘i have a title’ and you don’t so you have to listen to me.

Why can’t people just communicate on an equal plane as humans.

Too bad some people insist. Why would someone want disingenuous respect? When unforced, I think there are good aspects of titles. I think they can say something about our regard for the entire Zion-building endeavor. Sometimes they help a conversation or meeting stay focused. I love that we call each other brother and sister, too.

But the woman who in casual conversation refers to her own husband as “Bishop” gets a big What-the-heck? from me.
