I just read Rock’s new blog post. It is about the God Mahal in SLC.

I REALLY want to share it on facebook which has lots of unquestioning members.

The video at the end would have been more effective without the starving children, IMHO.

Difference between subtley and bashing people over the head….otherwise I think he is spot on.

I come to this place to keep me grounded….so..ground me people! I know you can only give your opinion and that is what I am asking for…to post or not to post…ah thats the question

I do not post religious stuff on Facebook.

    Period.

    I’ve learned the hard way.

What cwald said. Absolutely not. It’s too much of a feeding frenzy almost always – and it tends to get the attention of quasi-professional attack artists and apologists.

Facebook is wonderful – except when it sucks. Bringing religion to it, especially any degree of religious controversy is suicidal. I’m not a fan of suicide, generally.

I agree with what has been said. I would not.

Thanks folks…occasionally get all fired up and want to shout from the rooftops….nice to have friends who are willing to grab hold and say “Don’t Jump!”

I know what my NOM buddies would have said

This is a very controversial issue, even here. I think it is interesting that he begins by saying that the mall was a bad financial decision, and then later tries to say that even if it was the best financial move since sliced bread it would still be a bad idea. I really don’t care about this issue. There are benefits to revitalizing the downtown and the church is the major stakeholder – but more than that I just don’t care how other people spend their money. Perhaps I’m too detached from the issue and don’t see the church’s money as my tithing money or God’s money but simply as the church’s money.

There are some old threads on this issue but don’t try to bump them up – they got too heated and had to be locked down. :silent:

Oh and as far as the facebook thing – I do not think this would affect your church membership in the slightest. It probably will hurt your relationship with people that you care about.

Agreed… don’t say anything on FB.

By coincidence my mother shared a link to an article on fair today. I was about to make a comment about one of the inaccuracies. Then deleted it and started a message to her. Then deleted that too.

    Best to stay away!

“I do not think this would affect your church membership in the slightest. It probably will hurt your relationship with people that you care about.” +1

However, there are a few stories of highly controlling bishops who lay the smackdown on someone over status updates on FB, so even there your results may vary. Most bishops don’t troll FB looking for apostates. They either don’t have time, don’t know how, don’t care, or figure it’s just FB.

Personally, when it comes to FB, I try to follow the same ideal that used to apply to the dinner table: don’t discuss religion or politics. I don’t think we change minds much on FB. We just piss people off who are already entrenched in their own views.

FWIW, a FB friend shared a bycommonconsent article about praying in conference yesterday. Another friend shared a link to a FAIR article. Both were politely ignored.

I know of another person who tracks the behaviour of an ‘apostate’ and reports it to the Bishop.

johnh, you are still a relative newbie. I let my sense of humor out occasionally, and it can be much more biting and “inappropriate” than that. 😳
