A contest was held to determine the 10 commandments of atheists and here are the chosen winners. I quite like them. #7 sounds a lot like the golden rule. 1. Be open-minded and be willing to alter your beliefs with new evidence.
2. Strive to understand what is most likely to be true, not to believe what you wish to be true.
3. The scientific method is the most reliable way of understanding the natural world.
4. Every person has the right to control of their body.
5. God is not necessary to be a good person or to live a full and meaningful life.
6. Be mindful of the consequences of all your actions and recognize that you must take responsibility for them.
7. Treat others as you would want them to treat you, and can reasonably expect them to want to be treated. Think about their perspective.
8. We have the responsibility to consider others, including future generations.
9. There is no one right way to live.
10. Leave the world a better place than you found it.
Most of them aren’t really commandments…but then, who would be doing the commanding? I’m curious where this list came from. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I like it. I would modify #4 to add something about private control and/or an exception when others are impacted directly by personal control. It’s the old idea that my right to swing my fist ends where your nose begins.

Seems to imply you can go out and impregnate 30 women if you want. Now, you might argue it’s tempered with some of the other “commandments”, such as thinking about future generations and the perspectives of others. But nonetheless, it seems to be at variance with those principles without some form of qualification attached to it. The others are good principles. I agree they are not commandments though — they are principles. The 10 commandments were very operational; these are are more conceptual.
“Seems to imply you can go out and impregnate 30 women if you want.” No, because those women have control over what they do with their bodies, so they would have to be consenting. I like it – great list! Imagine if people lived their Mormonism this way. What’s the source?
