I’ve had my fill of history about Joseph Smith. I’ve read several books about the early days up to his martyrdom. Brigham Young was the second most influential figure in the LDS branch of Mormonism (and others). I think BY really put his personal stamp on the faith. It’s time for me to understand him better.

    Anyone have good suggestions?

I have heard from some folks that Brigham Young: American Moses by Leonard Arrington is a good read about BY, but I haven’t read it (still working through my own list of books).

It is interesting to me how many books are about Joseph compared to Brigham.

That title sounds familiar. Leonard Arrington would probably be a good author for such a book. I imagine his book being more like RSR for Brigham. I’ll check that out.

Should/could we change the title of this thread to Brigham Young: American Moses to keep the forum organized as a recommendation resource?

I would like to hear about any other books (or other media) that are good sources. So much is written about JS, but is there really only 1 decent book about BY? I’d love to collect more suggestions over time in this thread as a reference list for others.

Someone can start a new thread specifically for “Brigham Young: American Moses.” I haven’t read it.
