We got a new bishop today. He breaks the stereotypical mold that Bishops fit. He is a convert of about 15 years, black, and previously divorced. He is now married to a white sister who brought him into the church. I’m looking forward to this guy!

Wow! Let us know how it goes. There needs to be more like him – any one of those non-stereotypes will do.

I see this as positive on two fronts.

    1) That this man was called as Bishop means that the leadership in the area are open to someone like him being Bishop. They could have easily chosen someone else and nobody would have even known that he was being considered.

    2) His experiences are somewhat different from the traditional Mormon mold (multi-generational families etc.). There is the hope that this will help him to better relate to people on the fringes.

Oh yeah. May it be the beginning of something great.

How interesting. I didn’t think divorced guys could be called as bishop.
