I am imagining a situation were if the leaders were too recalcitrant in doing as God wished, He would simply remove them until He had a leader that was more pliable. Am I missing something in the thought process?

I realize your question is directed at Bridget, but I don’t believe God will, has, or does “take out” those who are not doing His will – prophet or not. I believe God is the greatest respecter of free agency. This explains how JS, BY, and others could do what they did as well as the likes of Hitler, Stalin and those of their ilk. (Clarification: I am not equating JS and BY with Hitler or Stalin: I am making a point that they all used free agency and God did not intervene.) I don’t buy into the idea that God will not let His prophet lead us astray – I think he has done so and will do so.
