The “essays” are slightly more visible on lds.org. Still under Teachings… Gospel Topics… but now there is an front page of that area that introduces the essays and specifically points out the essays associated with controversial matters. Prior to this, the essays were just sprinkled in with the rest of the mix. Race and the Priesthood was between Quorum of the Seventy and Relief Society. Thanks for sharing OON. I probably wouldn’t have noticed right away. Generally I don’t like the redesign of the site itself, but that’s probably just me. I really, really like this change though. Not only does Gospel Topics have its own homepage, but I like that the essay links are all right there on the right side. :thumbup: :thumbup: Previously you had to essentially search each topic to find the essays. Now you have to search for the other, more lame stuff.Excellent! :clap: :clap: :clap: :clap: Seriously, that is a huge thing, as small as it might seem. They are being linked to the online lesson manuals, and now they are more visible online.

I don’t see how anyone can argue that the essays are not the official stance of the church based on that statement. The only thing that can make that better is if someone, preferably a FP member or Elder Packer references it in the first weekend in April.
Now they just need to resolve the issues with the Polygamy essay and strike that ludicrous Law of Sarah nonsense! In my curiosity about this new development I promptly visited LDS.org. I had the same impulse but went ahead and found it was about the 10 commandments. Hard to argue with that.
Glad they are making these topics more visible. I will be interested in seeing how they are handled in classes. I think probably by rationalization and picking and choosing the parts that still fit TBM beliefs. In the hands of an unorthodox member, it could be a forthright lesson though. Remember Uchdortfts talk in which he said people on the fringe have the right to worship according to the dictates of their own conscience? All that got quoted in meetings was “Doubt your doubts, not your faith”.
A stake presidency member brought up the essays to me. I said I had heard of them, and suggested they be integrated into the RS/EQ lessons. He was hesitant to endorse that idea and suggested they be topics of discussion within the home for now. Seems the articles are being used as a tool by leaders to help those who come to them with struggles. I am optimistic. So it won’t be talked about at the next stake or general conference. It will be easier for me to include in my lessons. And it will enable those leaders who have read them to speak authoritatively, rather than trying to change the subject.

Quick follow up: essays were mentioned in the midst of a typically conservative stake conference last Sunday with the exact web address given out and with mention of what the topics were. I guess I’m no prophet
