I almost never share things that I find being forwarded on Facebook or other similar sites, but I came across this one today and want to share it with everyone here:

    1. Make peace with your past, so it won’t screw up your present.

    2. What others think of you is none of your business.

    3. Time heals almost everything, so give it time.

    4. Don’t compare your life to others, and don’t judge them. You have no idea what their lives are all about.

    5. Stop thinking too much; it’s okay not to know all the answers. Many of them will come to you when you least expect it.

    6. No one is in charge of your happiness, except you.

    7. Smile. You don’t own all the problems in the world.

    Ray,

Thanks for posting, I needed to read these things. #7 is resonating for me in particular this morning.

In the last couple of weeks I’ve found myself being unnecessarily combative. Everyday members making well-intended, but in my opinion rigid, comments that annoyed me and which regretably resulted in sharp remarks from me. I’m responsible for my salvation and well-being, others are responsible for theirs. Not that I give up and withdraw completely, but becoming angry is counter-productive. Preaching to myself here, nobody else.

I can completely understand this. I went through a 6 month “rage” phase of getting livid at people saying things that were, in my opinion at the time, just plain stupid. I would make a snappy comment in reply and my hands would be violently shaking, my breathing more rapid.

I’m glad I’ve moved on and a little more chilled. People still say stupid things, but I’m learning to accept that sometimes they can be simply ignored. Personalised curriculum and all that.

Love the advice. Applying it is another thing, though.

I really struggle with #2. In regards to my changes in faith this past year, I’m constantly worried about what others will think and how they will feel about my decisions and actions in this area, especially my family.

First let me say that I appreciate and genuinely like the advice given. OTOH, I did recently read about the limitations of # 3 in regards to grieving. The gist of it was that while time is a vital ingredient, time alone will not effect healing. I’m sure that Ray would agree with me and not feel that these 7 points of advice are perfectly applicable for every situation. :D

I absolutely agree, Roy – especially that “time alone will not effect healing”. Time gives us room to heal, but it doesn’t do the healing on its own.
