I really like Edler Teh’s talk so far. It’s a very interesting way to talk about materialism, and I like it. Uh oh, did this next guy (missed his name) find this silly research? http://www.technologyreview.com/view/526111/how-the-internet-is-taking-away-americas-religion/ Is this talk a warning for members to avoid the internet to search for information? “Garbage”?

No, I didn’t hear it that way. He is right that there is lots of garbage on the internet that should be avoided.
He actually is from Brazil (Lithuanian parents) – and is giving a pretty standard talk about how anyone can get answers if they are sincere. Most of you will want to skip this one, as well. It is a great talk for traditional, conservative members but not for most people here. I caught the tail end of the talk about either JS was a pretender or a prophet and the one on the internet/searching for the truth (Sorry don’t know the names of who presented them). From what I caught I’m glad I missed them but since I only caught parts of it, there might be bits I like. So far I’ve only caught one whole session which is pretty normal for me. I definitely think we could par down conference to: a general womens/mens meeting and 2 Sunday meetings. This way I wouldn’t feel like I threw away 10 hours on a weekend listening to the same old stories. Don’t get me wrong, there are some awesome talks, I just think it could be pared down. P.S. I apologize for any mispellings my computer screen is cracked so I have to guess what I’m actually typing.

I liked that too, Ray. I texted to my daughter during his talk that the reason he doesn’t understand the story of Abraham and Isaac may be because he is taking it too literally.

Totally agree. The dominoes do not necessarily fall. I do believe that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that he had a very profound spiritual experience in the sacred grove. I also believe he made some stuff up. It’s not an all or nothing proposition, and that idea should not be pushed, it’s a falsehood.
Elder Christofferson’s talk is a classic, traditional treatise about the reality of the resurrection. There are some really good things in it for believers and investigators, but it also is full of the “therefore” paradigm that says, “Because of . . ., this also . . .” “Everything that follows from the fact of his resurrection.” Honestly, I think it will be neutral for most of the people who participate here.
Wornoutsneakers, I have a friend who’s a convert to the church. He also used to believe saying the word “proud” was bad when you were happy with someone or something. Over the last couple years with hearing Thomas S. Monson speak, he doesn’t believe it’s bad anymore when you use the word “proud” when you are happy with someone or something. I didnt say in my post i thought the word proud was bad. I didnt pass any judgement. I said a speaker at my church said that. That speaker was actually quoting a GA i believe in his talk. I heard the speaker today say it and it jogged my memory from last month. Now that you bring it up though, i do think being grateful is better. Sortof goes in line with what DU said in his talk, which i really liked. Gratitude is something i actively need to work on.
