Hymns/songs that bug you?

Yeah, I wish we had the Christmas version in our hymnbook instead of the Kolob version. If You Could Hie almost never gets sung, because nobody really understands the lyrics (and can you imagine having to explain them to an investigator). It’s really a waste of a beautiful melody. There is no excuse for overlooking Ralph Vaughan Williams. 😆

It is permissible to sing words to a song to a different melody. The hymnbook even gives a cross reference to hymns with which the meters work. “If you could Hie…” is a 7676D meter. I’d actually love to hear a choir or quartet sing the “Christmas” lyrics to this song.

A lot of people find God Save The Queen offensive for political and historical reasons, even within the UK, and particularly in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Not everyone supports the monarchy there.

I love America the Beautiful – *that* should be the US national anthem.

And why just American and English anthems? Where’s Advance Australia Fair, O Canada, God defend New Zealand, ?iseliki Afrika, Land of my Fathers, the Soldier’s Song or Flower of Scotland?

We sing the wrong version of Guide me O thou great Jehovah! What happened tp “bread of heaven”?
