ParticipantToday in fast and testimony meeting I stood with my dad, my father-in-law, my brothers-in-law, and two of my very close friends. We held my new daughter in our arms and we gave her a blessing. After the meeting we went to our home and ate breakfast. This church ordinance brought us together. I am grateful that the church allows a non TR holding member like myself to still perform this ordinance. My oldest turns eight in a year and half. From what I understand I’ll be able to baptize her, but not confirm her. I’m not sure how I feel about this still. But for now, I will enjoy today’s good experience. KeymasterCongrats, friend. Blessing one’s baby is a wonderful thing. April 11, 2011 at 5:01 am #143592cwald
ParticipantYes. This is one LDS tradition that I really like. I’m with you — I hope the LDS church will not make policiy and rules that will end up excluding fathers from these kind of spiritual family experiences. It would be shame. April 11, 2011 at 11:20 am #143593canadiangirl
ParticipantI’m so glad you had a great experience. Congratulations on your new baby. CG

I am not sure if this has been the policy for some time or has been recently “adjusted,” but I also rejoice that this point has been brought more clarity of late.

ParticipantThanks for sharing that Mtnman. It sounds like it was a wonderful experience. Roy wrote:I am not sure if this has been the policy for some time or has been recently “adjusted,” but I also rejoice that this point has been brought more clarity of late.
It was very recent — November 2010. It was changed in the most recent Church Handbook of Instruction that was released in that month.
