π – you know, the “there is no prohibition against women wearing pants to church, and we don’t dictate what ‘Sunday best’ means” statement. The church said that? Please provide a reference….this would be the best Christmas present ever

Scott Trotter is church spokesman and says what women wear is not specified:
“Attending Church is about worship and learning to be followers of Jesus Christ. Generally Church members are encouraged to wear their best clothing as a sign of respect for the Savior, but we don’t counsel people beyond that.”

Could you provide a link?

Hey Bear, see the link in my reply to johnh, specific statement that there’s no policy beyond ‘sunday best’

ParticipantA family member in the bishopric said the church has sent out a letter adding that women wears dresses. Wondering if our resident bishop can verify this for us? A bit of double speak on the church’s part if they did Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2

ParticipantI don’t believe it. And if true…the end. The end of the mormon church. And I mean…the end.

KeymasterHaven’t heard anything and would be shocked. My life savings aren’t worth betting, but . . . ain’t happening.

ParticipantCwald…there was a typo…the church was asking for women to wear dresses. I will certainly post it if I can get hold of it. That’s why I was asking if our online bishop can check. By that I meant dbmormon.
I am asking my brother in law to try to get a copy of the letter from his son in law. He is out of state..again that’s why I am asking dbmormon

ParticipantI understood even with the typo. And if the church issued a letter to the bishops that says women should wear dresses, after they issued the PR statement made by Trotter…THE END. Quote:LDS church spokesman Scott Trotter said clothing is not meant to be the focus of church attendance. “Attending church is about worship and learning to be followers of Jesus Christ,” LDS spokesman Scott Trotter said Tuesday in a statement. “Generally church members are encouraged to wear their best clothing as a sign of respect for the Savior, but we donβt counsel people beyond that.”
If what you say is true…
It’s over.
No offense…but I don’t believe it…I will not believe it until I read it myself.

ParticipantI don’t believe anything second hand…so no offence taken. My bet is that if it exists at all it comes from an area representative rather than the first presidency..seems a lot of this type of nonsense comes from that level.

ParticipantKind of hoping DBMormon would weigh in…isn’t he a Bishop? January 4, 2013 at 12:29 am #163929afterall
ParticipantI suggest sending him a private message to get his attention. I would like to see what he is aware of also. January 4, 2013 at 4:05 pm #163930SamBee
ParticipantI do hope however, we don’t get a ward full of blue jeans though. They represent a kind of contemporary conformity. January 4, 2013 at 7:09 pm #163931DBMormon
ParticipantJust a side note. If every Sister in my ward showed up in slacks this Sunday…. I am not even sure I would pick up on it. Things like this are the least of my concerns or things I am looking for. I have never read where officially Sisters must have a dress nor have I ever read a Brother has to have a white shirt and tie for that matter. We as LDS unfortunately extend culture further then Doctrine….but I see that as the few and that most get it. Sadly sometimes the few are loudest. Bill Reel
