ParticipantAlso, Hawkgirl– I would love to see your list of proposed Q12 types.

ParticipantAllquieton – without having put much thought into this, here are some first impressions: Eyring – as a scientist, I have to imagine he’s an INTP or INTJ.
Uchtdorf – ENTJ or possibly ENTP
Packer – ESTJ, no question.
Monson – ESFJ
Anyone disagree or want to add to that?

I always thought personality tests were just cheese–until I read the INTP profile somewhere. This was maybe a year ago. It described me so exactly that I couldn’t believe it. Been fascinated by it ever since. It gave me a measure of peace about being who I am. And it helped explain other people so well–especially certain J’s in my family by whom I was constantly baffled.
I know some people just shrug at it, but for me it changed everything.
That is me to a ‘T’, even the type. Sometimes I wonder why I need someone to tell me that a) people are different, and b) those differences profoundly affect how they interpret and relate to the world around them. It seems like this should be obvious to me. Somehow, though, having it all codified and written down is a great comfort, and gives me freedom to be who I am and not feel deficient. It really does seem like magic sometimes.

As an INTP, I have a hard time believing someone with that personality type could hack it in that position. At work I interact with a lot of engineers/scientists, and there are several NFs and SJs among them.

ParticipantOf course it’s hard to say without knowing someone very well. But… I like to speculate.
Holland is something like an ENTJ, I think.
Scott may be an ESFJ.
http://typelogic.com/esfj.html “Their sense of right and wrong wrestles with an overwhelming rescuing, ‘mothering’ drive…,” (A very typical theme in his talks.) Also, “As caretakers, ESFJs sense danger all around–germs within, the elements without, unscrupulous malefactors, insidious character flaws.” (Maybe spiritual danger, for Scott.)
And I think Packer is ISTJ rather than ESTJ. Just b/c he doesn’t seem to be a people person, and he’s so intensely black and white. Well, this page seemed to describe him to a T, for me:

ParticipantPacker as ISTJ could definitely be. October 14, 2010 at 6:29 pm #120742DevilsAdvocate

http://typelogic.com/istj.html No, this can’t be true; I can’t possibly be just like Boyd K. Packer but I was probably only one question away from being ISTJ instead of INTJ. This is awful news. Then again, I was looking at a list of famous INTJs and it showed Arnold Schwarzenegger as one but I don’t identify with him much either because he doesn’t really look introverted to me at all, in fact to me he seems relatively aggressive and even somewhat mean whereas I see myself as relatively passive and nice.
Of course, this system could technically allow quite a bit a variation within the same personality label. For example, suppose Schwarzenegger scored something like 51% Introverted and Thinking and 75% Intuitive and Judging (almost the opposite of me within the INTJ type). In a case like that of course his personality would be very different from me and I might actually have more in common with many people with completely different personality types that happened to score higher on the Introverted and Thinking scales.

ParticipantWell, there’s more to a person than just MBTI! George Washington was an ESTJ. October 19, 2010 at 3:05 pm #120744Orson

Henry B. Eyring did receive a B.S. in Physics, but basically departed from science after that. Mormon Scientist points out that he was not interested in chemistry like his father, and I think his career path in academic administration demonstrates that he probably doesn’t have the pure scientist personality that his father had.

Yeah, AQ, for me (eNFp) the P/J thing is wild! It really helps explain a lot for me. And my old boss looked like he’d had a revelation when I told him “I don’t like to tie bows. I’m more comfortable leaving them untied.”
😆 p.s. My (divorced) wife and mom are both iStJ, the opposite of eNFp.

ParticipantIf I may resurrect this thread. It might benefit some of us newer members. I am/was ISTP with some very strong conflict between types. I will go back and retake some of the tests and give an update.
Came out INFJ this time.
Introverted Intuitive Feeling Judging
Strength of the preferences %
72 12 12 17
And ISFP
Introverted (I) 69.7% Extroverted (E) 30.3%
Sensing (S) 50% Intuitive (N) 50%
Feeling (F) 55.88% Thinking (T) 44.12%
Perceiving (P) 51.16% Judging (J) 48.84%
See, I’m just a mess.

ParticipantSolid INTP here. April 16, 2011 at 9:56 pm #120748SilentDawning
ParticipantI’m INFJ — how does it explain why I have such a hard time staying fully active for my whole life. I’ve struggled with it three times, each time after something bad happened at Church, and lately, the last thing that happened wasn’t as bad as all the other things? Perhaps Hawkgrrl has insights…however, I need to read the rest of the thread above in case she already said it …if not….Hawkgrrl or anyone? April 16, 2011 at 11:00 pm #120749mercyngrace
ParticipantMine really close. 69% ISFP
68% INFP
ISFP
If your personality type is ISFP then you have some deeply-held values that, even though your life may be somewhat unstructured, direct the things that you do and say. You probably take a caring and sensitive approach to others, more so than may be apparent to others because you showing your feelings in acts of kindness rather than in direct statements. You probably have a strong sense of the type of lifestyle you enjoy, which you want to maintain.
INFP
If your personality type is INFP then you have some deeply-held values, though there are probably very few people, if any, who know what those values actually are. Privately, you may be a people-person, but others may not recognise it as you show your feelings in indirect, imaginative ways rather than in more conventional expressions of care. You may be looking forward to the realisation of some personal ideals.

Participanthawkgrrrl wrote:Here are just a few broad impressions on how disaffection might manifest for people of different types:
-SJs care deeply about tradition and belonging. Change can be a problem – if too much change is introduced too quickly. Also, authority is important to them, so issues with disappointment in the hierarchy can be devastating.
-SPs are artistic, adventurous hedonistic types. When they leave, it is often to sow their wild oats. Honestly, there aren’t many religions that appeal to them. They don’t like restrictions and they seek pleasure.
-NFs seek meaning and want to make a difference in the world for people. When the church’s aims conflict with their causes, they will pursue their causes before the church. Additionally, they may object to the corporate, impersonal (administrative) aspect of church.
-NTs lean atheist or agnostic anyway, and prefer the rational world. They aren’t very interested in authority or causes. They crave mastery and to understand the universe. Many become scientists. They love ideas and intellectual discussion. I’m certain some of the Q12 are NTs, but the church (especially the SJs) are often skeptical of intellectualism. NTs are skeptical of authority and even anti-authoritarian. They operate based on principles, not based on values (like NFs) or loyalty (SJs) or pleasure (like SPs).
Anyway, just a few more thoughts on the flavors of disaffection. Of course, there are 16 types (not just the 4 Kiersey temperaments), and no two people are exactly alike. To me, though, this does explain a lot. I’ve seen MBTI results for NOM and bloggernacle, and they confirm what I would expect.
I think this has been very accurate in my case.
I always used to be INTJ and anti-authoritarian doesn’t even begin to describe my younger self. I challenged everything. Hated being caged or controlled by people or principles I considered arbitrary!
In recent years, I’ve begun testing differently and I think I am actually closest to INFP. Certainly the description Hawkgrrrl posted fits.
NFs seek meaning and want to make a difference in the world for people. When the church’s aims conflict with their causes, they will pursue their causes before the church. Additionally, they may object to the corporate, impersonal (administrative) aspect of church. This absolutely describes how’ve I felt in the last several years (decade maybe). -
