This documentary was shown on British national TV last week. It follows the story of a young man into the mission field. It’s kind of a study in the influence a film maker and editor in shaping the final “feel” of a film. Everything was factual, but was made to seem a bit odd.

Channel Four is notorious for Victorian freakshow docs these days eg the Undateables, with folk with severe problems Aspergers, Tourettes, severe disfigurements, amputees etc.

So don’t expect it to be fair.

I was hoping someone familiar with British TV would give some context. If Channel 4 is notorious, why would the Church agree to that level of access?

Put it this way – one of our oldest ward members joined after hearing a documentary on the BBC World Service (international radio). He felt it was not telling the full story. Any publicity is good publicity.

I haven’t noticed the Romney effect round here though.
