Nice shout out to the essays, especially in light of that one Mormon Leaks.

I literally have a long list of questions that no member of the church can answer – not my husband, my bishop or even Pres Monson. This is not coming from some sort of spiritual caterpillar – I thought of all these questions while serving in a calling, paying tithing, and holding a TR. Telling me to just have more faith is simply not helpful.

So I’ll take the mention of the essays and the accent, and leave the rest.

It’s funny that he mentions when you have questions/doubts turn to the scriptures or words approved by the church on LDS.org… Too bad the essays the church published is where I learned about problems in church history and that really shook my foundation… That talk just had me all :sick:

Why can we never have a General Conference without a bunch of sob stories? It’s really depressing.

I’ll say this much. I love the story because it’s raw and it’s real and it doesn’t have a happy ending. Most people have stories that don’t have happy endings and only hearing stories where someone miraculously sprung back can hurt people that haven’t experienced it for themselves. They wonder why they haven’t had those happy endings.

Like the talk from the other day with a picture of perfect muffins but when panned out it shows a messy kitchen with a screaming kid. If we’re going to compare, let’s compare our reality. It puts us in a better position to heal one another.

True. We do have a bad habit of focusing on happy endings.

But I’m already prone to depression, and tragedies involving children are my worst nightmare, so I need to miss those.

The moral of this story is a good one. Overall, I really liked this talk.

With that said, I understand your need to skip these sort of stories, Joni.

Is it me, or has the average age of the MoTab gotten younger over the last two decades?

Maybe I’m just getting closer to them in age :problem:

Cool. If divine themes emerge, then outliers can be seen as just that: individual outliers. Thus, Elder Oaks’ talk might be such an outlier.

Sure, I know that is WAY outside what Elder Andersen intended, but it is a reasonable, albeit twisted, conclusion.

Also, just to say it, if we define revelation officially as God’s word spoken and then carried into the hearer’s heart, if it isn’t carried into our hearts, we can see it as not revelation to us, personally.

I also like the direct condemnation of nationalism.

With all my issues with Pres. Nelson, I still appreciate the image of him rushing to be there when Elder Hales died.

I feel I gotta give the disclaimer. Tongue in cheek.

I can’t wait to tell my PH quorum all the parts I don’t consider revelation when we comb over… 😳 I mean take turns reading these talks in coming months.

Dang. Missed that one. That’s really going to ruffle some quorum feathers. Perhaps they will agree with me that not everything said during conference is gospel truth after all.
