Old-Timer
KeymasterSome of you know that I have been out of full-time work for the past six months. While it has been hard, I have been able to attend the funerals of my father and father-in-law, be more closely involved than would have been possible otherwise in my oldest son’s life as he graduated early from college and returned home for a while, attended my second son’s sealing this month, etc. Anyway, I have a new job. The offer was made yesterday, and I will start either on the 31st or on April 7th.
I wanted to stay in college admissions, but even more important was the need to stay here in Carson City. That imperative has been made clear to me through direct, strong impressions. I didn’t think I could do both, but I will be the new Regional Admissions Representative for Grand Canyon University in the Northern Nevada and Truckee, CA area – responsible for building a new territory essentially from scratch, which I have done in a previous job outside of admissions. I will work from home, which I have done in the past, and get to represent an institution that has impressed me greatly as I have talked with people and interviewed for this position.
Being out of work has been difficult, but we have been blessed greatly over the last few months – in more ways than I want to articulate right now. I will say only that the timing of this offer, that coincides almost exactly with the new job my wife starts soon, is something I am taking as a sign of divine mercy.
I am excited to begin this stage of my journey, even though it will cut down on the time I will have available to check in here each day.

ParticipantVery good for you. I am happy that you can see a divine guidence in this and I hope you are right. My faith is waning in things like that right now. The job sounds like a good fit for you. I still believe good things comes to good people and you are one of them. March 22, 2014 at 2:56 am #183469Daeruin

ParticipantCongratulations Ray! I too work remotely and it has its advantages, and disadvantages. The major one being the constant blur of work and personal life it facilitates. The lack of a commute is phenomenal, though. March 22, 2014 at 9:40 pm #183472mackay11

ParticipantCongratulations. Sounds like timing of events were just right. Sorry to hear of the deaths in the family and unemployment, however so glad you were able to take the time needed. As usual your attitude about the curveball thrown to you is admirable.

ParticipantA thousand congratulations. Your faith in life, in self, family and deity is fantastic. I pray and hope that both your jobs remain strong and long term for you and your wife. Thank you for all the hours of service you give us. You moderate with love, encouragement and kindness. We will miss you as you cut back hours, but I for one know that your talents will be so valuable in others lives I won’t be too upset if you have to move on. Again congratulations.
