KeymasterPresident M. Russel Ballard died yesterday, Sunday 11/12/2023, at 95 years of age. November 13, 2023 at 9:44 pm #245695DarkJedi
ParticipantJust saw that on the church site. https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/president-m-russell-ballard-dies ” class=”bbcode_url”> https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/president-m-russell-ballard-dies I hope I am as healthy for as long.
He seemed very frail at the last GC, but I still expected Holland to go first. Holland now gets a least a brief stint as acting president of the Twelve.
They don’t have to wait until next conference to call a replacement, but my guess is they may unless Pres. Nelson has somebody he wants there and doesn’t want to risk waiting. I honestly don’t have a clue who among the Seventy or elsewhere might be in the running. As a related side note, I believe the last time a non-GA was called into the Q12 was Nelson and Oaks, which kind of broke tradition at the time (although it was not uncommon earlier). Pres. Nelson does like to do things differently, so I guess we’ll see. I should also note that there were far fewer GAs when Nelson and Oaks were called.

ParticipantIn his last GC talk, he did seem to speak as if he thought it would be his last one. He did also seem to be having difficulties due to his age, but I wouldn’t have thought he’d go so soon. It is sad to hear. DarkJedi wrote:They don’t have to wait until next conference to call a replacement, but my guess is they may unless Pres. If I was forced to place a chip down on something, I would bet that Pres. Nelson calls someone before conference. Considering his own age, he does like to get things done while the gettin’s good.
