I understand, Ann – but Pres. Monson definitely talks of Jesus as much as anyone. That is important to remember and mention to our kids. Often, he talks about Jesus and love and service – and nothing else. Talk starting with literal godhead, importance of the HG. Not expecting much. Might as well listen to a talk on chakras. Ann, is it important to convince your kid that the church’s focus is on Christ, or is it enough that that is her focus?
Elder Rasband’s missionary experience is another reason I don’t deny or criticize literal beliefs in many ways. Things like that happened to me on my mission, as well, even if only once in some cases. ydeve wrote:

:thumbup: I have to say I have not heard the Spirit’s influence described as words before. I get that during blessings and have experienced it, but not in other things like promptings. My dad used to say that he tried to do every good thing that hit him as something he should do. He said he didn’t care if it was a prompting or not, since he couldn’t be wrong in going good. I get it, I think. But I don’t see them as coming directly from God. Or rather, from one paradigm, they are promptings from God. In another paradigm, they are gut instincts or a reflection of what’s important to me.

That was my mission presidents answer to the question on knowing if something was a prompting or not.

I’m not sure they come directly from God either, but I have had experiences where what I said I would not normally have said.
