I am interviewing Terryl & Fiona Givens next week. I will talking about their book the Crucible of Doubt but also sprinkling in a few other questions. I would be interested in what questions you would like me to ask. I realize they have done AMA (ask me anything) on Reddit and have addressed issues on Radio West and Mormon Stories. I do not neceassarily want to rehash those questions but rather am looking for questions that address the struggle of doubt and the doubters perceptions from a different angle. What would you like to ask them? Thanks DB – I haven’t read the AMA list yet, once I do I will see if I have additional questions. Do you have a deadline for them? I’ll be thinking of some. My TBM-ish wife just got the Crucible of Doubt on audio. I REALLY hope it has an impact. We’ve always prided ourselves on being laid back, semi-intelligent members, but my FC has had a seriously bad impact on our marriage. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I follow everything I can find on the Givens’, I read the articles, books and listen to interviews. I love their work and think they are doing tremendous good. It occurred to me reading the AMA that this may be one question that has not been addressed directly.
For me, I follow what Dan Wotherspoon once said and I try to remain agnostic on these questions. I try to lead with faith and not worry about understanding every principle in the same way that most members assume; but I imagine it can be a bigger obstacle for some people.
What church holds the beliefs you espouse? Certainly the LDSchurch I am familiar with does not resemble or teach the belief system you advocate. Not to derail the thread but a much more important question in my opinion is how will the church relate in 10 or 20 years? I think it will be very close, I think Terryl is simply ahead of the curve.

Yes I agree. I just find them fascinating that they can so easily dismiss all the contradictions and dubious actions of former leaders and embrace what they see as good in the church.

I also agree. The ship is turning. It actually boggles my mind that many in the church, especially the most orthodox it seems, don’t see it. On another forum I actually saw the comment that the Givens are a major threat to the church. That is so thankfully not true.
So perhaps that’s a question – how would Terryl and Fiona respond to such a criticism?
I think they would respond exactly as they are – especially since they (and the Bushmans) have been asked by “the top leadership” to do what they are doing. Many people don’t know that, and many highly conservative members wouldn’t believe it, but it’s an important part of what’s happening now. I can 2nd what Ray has said. The Brethren are very aware of the Bushmans and Givens and what they are saying and doing and while the Church is not behind the faith crisis firesides and other public appearances directly, they also are not separate from it nor opposed to them. I will say no more than that.
