Ray, I totally agree. Trying to find out what is right for me should not mean I need to be overly zealous and impose that on others. I have changed my mind several times about things as I learn them, so I can try to leave that door open that I may not know for sure yet, but I’m going with that idea until I learn something better.
What others believe doesn’t need to determine what I believe or not. I can be tolerant of other mormons that are literalists of everything said by church leaders or in the scriptures, even if I view them more symbolic in nature and for my benefit as a reference point, not as a sticking point to argue about with others.
I think I can try to be influential to others by sharing what I believe to be true, but never cross that line of imposing my belief on others, including my children.
