While they are not related directly to Mormonism, george’s comment about American Indian practices and religion made me think of one of my favorite authors – Tony Hillerman. His murder mysteries in which the murders occur within the Navajo nation and the primary protagonists are members of the Navajo Tribal Police force are fascinating for their detail of native religious ceremonies and mythology.

I recommend them highly to anyone who is interested in such things.

I own each and every one of Tony Hillerman’s books. His insight into Native ceremonies and mythology are right on the nickel. Also this posting is in the best Navajo tradition (three weeks after Ray’s original post). Navajo’s take their sweet time in getting back to you… lots of Navajo’s are LDS by the way, including a few medicine men.
