    Quote:

In every human endeavor there are two arenas of engagement: the outer and the inner.

The outer game is played on an external arena to overcome external obstacles to reach an external goal.

The inner game takes place within the mind of the player and is played against such obstacles as fear, self-doubt, lapses in focus, and limiting concepts or assumptions. The inner game is played to overcome the self-imposed obstacles that prevent an individual or team from accessing their full potential.

    Mark 10:14

But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

    Quote:

“There is not enough of the attitude of the sincere investigator among us. There are altogether too many people in the world who are willing to accept as true whatever is printed in a book or delivered from a pulpit. Their faith never goes below the surface soil of authority. I plead with everyone I meet that they may drive their faith down through that soil and get hold of the solid truth, that they may be able to withstand the winds and storms of indecision and of doubt. I have been very grateful that the freedom, dignity, and integrity of the individual are basic in church doctrine. We are free to think and express our opinion in the church. Fear will not stifle thought… I admire men and women who have developed the questing spirit; who are unafraid of new ideas as stepping stones to progress. We should, of course, respect the opinions of others, but we should also be unafraid to dissent–if we are informed… We should be dauntless in our pursuit of truth and resist all demands for unthinking conformity. No one would have us become mere tape recorders of other people’s thoughts…While I believe all that God has revealed, I am not quite sure I understand what he has revealed, and the fact that God has promised further revelation is to me a challenge to keep an open mind and be prepared to follow wherever my search for truth may lead.”–“A Final Testimony”: Hugh B. Brown.

What screws us up most in life is the picture in our head of how it’s supposed to be.

There are elements of / implications from this quote with which I don’t agree, since our dreams of what should be often drive progress and growth and temper despair, but there is a lot of truth in it, as well.

Two things to remember in this life: take care of your thoughts when you are alone, and take care of your words when you are with people.

    Quote:

If you want to believe in something, then believe in it! Just because something isn’t true, that’s no reason you can’t believe in it!…Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most. That people are basically good. That honor, courage and virtue mean everything; that power and money, money and power mean nothing. That good always triumphs over evil. And I want you to remember this, that love – true love – never dies! Remember that boy, remember that. Doesn’t matter if it is true or not, a man should believe in those things, because those are the things worth believing in….

This is interesting. I listened to a podcast (Hidden Brain from NPR) about a guy that was pretending to be a lady and was writing “lonely” men (for a small fee). After he was outed (and even sent to prison) and the recipients of the letters knew he had written them, some of them still kept the letters and claim they helped him get through a really rough time in his life. So he KNEW they were “fake”, but they still motivated him. It was interesting.
