I’m curious about the demographics of this site. Perhaps nuanced believing is more common among certain professions than others. If you’re still in school, check what most closely matches your major.

I gather that there are a lot of programmers here due to being able to make/understand programming jokes, so I made a dedicated box for that.

I had to pick a “related” one – mine isn’t really on there. Well, it is, but it isn’t. It’s complicated but I never thought it was before now.

    Gotta love those P-values.

I picked the one where I have worked for most of the last 25 years (education) and the one I will be doing as soon as I finish my Master’s Degree program and get licensed (counseling/therapy).

You can’t possibly be saying we won’t get much information from a small, self-selected sample!

You know, if we model the selection process as a Bayesian network and come up with reasonable priors, we could get a proper posterior distribution. Hypothesis testing – bah! If you show me a distribution, I’ll show you a man who knows what true knowledge looks like…

(FWIW, this is me joking. I’ve always found the idea of dogmatic statisticians funny, but… that’s how it is. Go figure.)

Anyway… Beefster, the best predictor I’ve seen for nuanced faith is Myers-Briggs type N (iNtuitive). These people trust their mental models of the world like they trust their senses. Type N is overrepresented in all the sciences, not just in CS.

(Side-note: the phone’s auto correct initially gave me “mental noodles” instead of “mental models,” which at the moment is hilarious to me. Yes, yes, I trust my mental noodles.)

Technical Support for a grants management software company. I picked both the Computer box, and the Other box.

In about 5 years I should have my B.S. degree in either Public Health or Healthcare Administration – I want to run programs that help people physically or emotionally.

I only had 10 slots on the poll. Not a lot to work with.
