Hey, we all help each other. That doesn’t mean we are defective. We’re just wounded. You’re just fine. Thanks for helping us grow by listening to you.

Okay, I nearly hyperventilated while doing so, but I finally have an appointment to see a therapist. I really appreciate all the ideas you gave me. I used the phrase “family issues”, but it wasn’t nearly enough for the lady – she wanted more information about my situation. I finally just broke down and told her a few things, but I survived. Anyway, thanks so much for the support folks. I’m really going to try hard to work through this and make an attempt at resolving some things.

    @wendell-

sorry for the bad advice but… otoh, if it helped you make the call, I’m glad. You’ll do great and if it means anything, coming here to this forum and checking in/participating has helped me immensely! Someone else said this in a previous post, but there comes a time in all of our lives where we have to “let go and let god”. It’s a difficult journey but I believe strongly that you have something magnificent waiting for you on the other side of this experience.

Oh no, there was no bad advice given. It was certainly a lot better than laying out all my dirty laundry for some data entry stranger. I am very grateful for all of it. I truly hope things improve, and I am going to give it a go.

As do I. I’m sitting here dreading the thought of asking yet another stranger for help with my issues. In just a few short hours, I will be spilling my guts to someone I have never met before with the hope that they can understand and help me get over some of this crap I’ve been dealing with for all these years. Man, if it doesn’t help this time, I have no idea where else to go for help. Great, now I’ve just scared myself again.

    AAARRRGGGHHH!!!

Just print out your stories, hand them to him/her, close your eyes, and wait for questions. At least, that’s one approach. Be ready for the small talk tonight. Like this:

Counselor: “Well, Wendell. How’s it going?”

Wendell: “I made it here alive tonight! :-D How has your day been?”

C: “Not too bad. It sure is hot.”

W: “Yeah. Hey, if you don’t mind my taking this liberty, I have some stories I’d like you to read if you don’t mind starting out that way.”

Will do. That’s my plan. Thanks for the idea.

My finances are not really a mess. My wife works about 10 hours per week, but she refuses to do more than that.

I know this will sound like I’m just focusing on one teeny tiny part of the problem, but what’s with this attitude of hers? How can she let you work 2 to 3 full-time jobs and refuse to work more than 10 hours per week herself? I’m sorry, but that just strikes me as unbelievably selfish on her part.

    Hi Wendell,

Just got back from a short vacation. I was praying for you on Monday and I am so happy that you made the appointment. Keep us posted. And try to keep in mind that sometimes a stranger is the BEST person to talk to about some things. Look at all of us here, we are all strangers to each other. Yet, this is a great place for us to find help and offer help to others. Making that appointment took courage!

Awww, don’t sweat it Katspur. I’m sure she is doing the best she can with her own bundle of personal rules and expectations. The last thing I would do as her husband is begrudge her that. I do understand your point of view as a woman, however. I’m just saying as the person in Wendell’s shoes (the husband), we have to exercise understanding too. And having one spouse home most of the time is a great blessing! Sometimes reducing the expenditures is the best answer. Only wendell and DW can figure that out.

Let’s just say I don’t necessarily agree with every decision she has made in that regard, but it’s not something that is going to change so what’s the point in worrying about it? After all, I have more than enough issues of my own to deal with.

As for being courageous in making an appointment, it was very tough, but actually walking into the guy’s office yesterday was nearly unbearable – I did it though.

I knew you could, buddy. Don’t run along this path faster than you have strength…but remember its a marathon and keep the pace. What’s your next step?
