ParticipantIf mormon leadership are really prophets seers and revelatory then obviously your equation is correct. Mormons should memorize GC talks. Parse them into chapters and verses and collate them into new holy scripts

ParticipantThe premise if the OP is incorrect. Cwald,
You may have mistaken “Mormon Expression” with “Mormon Stories”. Which is easy to do both are run by guys named “John”
You see, Mormon Expressions doesn’t advocate the middle way as you have implied.
I agree that his reference to Nazi was out of order but ME isn’t middle way that’s MS.

Therefore handicapped people were not valient enough in the preexistence.

ParticipantI was negatively affected toward the end of that talk he laid the blame for boring sacrament meeting services on the members by saying that someone once asked SWK what he does when he finds himself at a boring sacrament meeting. The response: “I don’t know, I’ve never been to one”. Leaving us to infer that if we are bored that we must not be as spiritually in tune as SWK. Sounds like the brethren know that the services are boring but instead of making real changes to fix the problem they are going to continue to try and guilt everyone into enduring it.

ParticipantMost of the minutia rules found in the CHI can also be found and referenced out of conference talks also. I tried to simplify my research by only using one source reference per rule found. I suppose it would be better if I had the time to add a column and source alternative references secondary and tertiary sources for each line item. afterallwecando
Participant@Ray, @Brian, My apologies for coming across as sarcastic. That was not my intent. I thought that we had come to some accord. I see that to some extent we have but you guys are still kind of holding onto a portion of the law. That’s fine and we can disagree on that point.
It is a rather scary paradigm to throw out the law as I have done. You might be worried that free of the law I am now engaged in all manner of depravity. I assure you that it’s quite the opposite. Now that I’m free of the law, I have been more inclined to do God’s will because of my change of heart. I now pick and choose things to do off the list when and as I am able and desirous to do so. But I also recognize that doing them or not doing them makes no difference in the end.
However, I’ve seen others around me that have thrown out the law but without Christ in their hearts they have begun to reap all manner of iniquity and that is not good. So I think the law serves a good purpose to help guide those who haven’t had that change of heart yet. It also serves to break us because you can’t live under it for too long before losing hope. It’s really impossible to do everything.
I’m not sharing this as an issue for debate and I don’t expect to have you agree with me or the decisions I’ve made. It’s just how I view things now.
Anyway, Thanks for listening…

ParticipantI’m enjoying reading the discussion. The conclusions you guys are coming to are just the right ones and exactly the reason why I compiled the list in the first place. The entire list @ http://afterallwecando.com should be rejectedGal 3:10-13 wrote:
10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.
12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.
13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
Conclusion:
If you want to live by the law you will be cursed by the law. Why the church keeps piling on more and more rules is beyond me. No tattoos, no piercings, the list goes on and everyone is on the edge of their seat at GC waiting to hear what new rule to obey. Forget the law live by faith!

ParticipantJust wanted to let you know, I finished the list today. It’s 613 line items. I had to resort it for the final publish so all the line item #s are changed but it’s done now. It’s official. Mormons have just as many rules as the Pharisees.

Participanthttp://www.afterallwecando.com I just updated the list to 531 items. Now including links for about half the references.
Goal is 613 items to match judaic law.

ParticipantIt’s great to see the discussion. And I see that you all have gotten the point of the list. It is to drive home the message you have taken. Freedom! I never understood that before. I really thought I was supposed to be perfect and it nearly destroyed me. There are a lot of Mormons out there suffering from the disease of perfection and I hope that my list will push them enough to see that they can break free.

ParticipantThat’s classic! I’m going to add it and make sure it’s the first item!

Also, #302 is No Polygamy, but #79 is “Must engage in plural marriage (or in afterlife)”????
There are several commandments in the list that are diametrically opposed. I didn’t really know what to do except just include them as-is. This is where the cog-dis kicks in. I tried to include a reliable source reference for each item on the list so if I’m mis-interpreting any of them let me know and I’ll correct it.
I’m glad you’re enjoying the list. I have some ideas for adding to it tonight. I’m going to farm the Duty to God award. That’s like a built in check list already. If you have any other source materials you think might be handy for completing the list let me know. It’s my hypothesis that Mormons have at least as many laws as the old judaic laws from Jesus’ time. That amounts to 613 total.
So I’m going to keep looking until I can find that many or until I lose interest in the project. My attention span is short so we’re talking about 1-2 more weeks tops.
