It went ok. The lesson was pretty uplifting. I believe everyone left the room with the general feeling that they wanted to attend the temple more often.

The only thing I brought up was that there has been many changes to the temple ceremony over time but it still points in the same direction.

Had a funny line from an old temple recommend question as well. ” have you knowingly branded another persons cattle”.

There was some laughs and discussion about the changes in the ceremonies. So at least now everyone knows that the things in the temple have changed over time.

I had prepared a small something about freemasonry and the temple but it didn’t seem like the right moment to talk about that.

Thanks a lot again for the ideas! I’ll probably post again in a month (when I give a new lesson) for other ideas and thoughts.

    Thanks!

Good idea and thanks again for the comments. I live in Denmark and the temple marriage exclusion thingie is not that big of a deal since we always have a civil ritual after the temple sealing. Usually within a couple of hours. I guess not too many people feel left out. My own dad didn’t attend my sealing and I don’t think he really minded. But thanks for the comments and insights!

Yep. I’m not going to dwell on the subjects. They just need to be mentioned. And I don’t think I’ll mention more than 2 subjects per lesson.

    Thanks again everyone!

If you hang in there you might even come out on the other side with a renewed testimony (Although much more complex and nuanced ). For me the best thing that ever happened to my relationship with God was a faith crisis. Now I don’t feel like I have to fit into believing evolution is wrong (or any other “hairy” topic for that matter) now my religion is MY religion, not a set of things I feel I have to believe in. I can in all honesty say that I have never felt as close to my Heavenly Father as I have done lately. And I have gone through lots of questioning regarding polygamy, kinderhook plates, polyandry, Freemasons etc etc…

Keep digging – the truth shall set you free! (Even if the truth is that JS – or any other leader – turns out to be highly flawed people that made bad and good decisions).

(But remember to always keep renewing your testimony)

    :)

David o mackay was the first beardless leader of the church. By reading the biography about him I learned that he was VERY much against communism and saw it as pretty much the antichrist. In the culture I come from , beards could be associated with being communist ( not now, but back in the day)… But I’m only speculating.. What do you think, does that seem plausible?

I have a pretty big problem with everyone looking/dressing the same. Even behaving the same. There are SO many unwritten rules in the church culture that makes it hard for people to stay. Beards is one of them.

    Ooooh… Goodbye white shirt!

This makes me SO happy! Allow beards to people serving in bishoprics etc and I would be so happy!

Thanks a lot for the info! Much appreciated!

Could anyone quote whatever manual that is being referred to earlier in this thread, please?

I would really like to see where the manual says that it’s normal to wear white shirts but not mandatory… What about not wearing a white shirt when performing ordinances such as passing he sacrament? Any quotes?

    Thanks a lot!

I REALLY like the section about blacks. Is offers a great short introduction to the dilemma and calls it a practice.

I see this as a HUGE tiny step in “inauguration” when it comes to church history. Great stuff! I can’t wait to see where the church will be in 10 years from now. With the whole mormonsandgays.com and continuing progressive thinking, I think the future looks bright!

Where was the quote taken from?

    Could you provide a link?

I am literally sitting with tears in my eyes after seeing this!!(reading this on my iPhone on an overcrowded train..) amazing! This is SUCH a huge step forward! I wish I could show this to some of my extremely narrow minded miss. Companions (I remember one specific comp. talking about homosexuality=fire and brimstone.. While not gay myself, (or knowing any people in the church with same sex attraction) I always wanted more understanding from the members when it came to gays/lesbians.

This is actually my first post here on staylds.(been lurking around for a couple of months now). I wanted my first post to be an “this is me/introduction” post but I couldn’t help writing this!!! Wohooooo!
