    Hi Sambee,

I wouldn’t take your visit with the new bishop too seriously. To take that long to go through a temple recommend interview seems excessive by this new bishop. I have never had a bishop take this long to go through a TR interview. Maybe he is being overly cautious being he is new to the calling and taking it ultra-seriously. Remember he is just as human as you and I and prone to make human errors like any one of us. Him commenting on your personality, not sure why he did that but maybe he may believe you aren’t worthy. His perception is just that and doesn’t necessarily mean he is correct in his perception. My mother had a temple recommend interview with a bishop once and asked her if she had ever engaged in a lesbian relationship lol ! And believe me… she never has and she definitely doesn’t have a “butchiness” aura about her lol.

    I hope this helps.

Christians in general (of any denomination) have fixated on homosexuality being wrong, as well as masturbation, pornography, divorce – some of it a cultural thing, others because of what is says in either the old or new testaments. “Touching oneself in a sexual manner” I don’t think is mentioned in the bible or in any standard work but culturally it has become a part of the lds church’s “law of chastity”.

I once dated a new order Mennonite woman and it was wrong to marry a divorced person, but in the LDS faith marrying a divorced person is very culturally acceptable in spite of what Christ taught about divorce in the bible and the book of Mormon.

The United Church have allowed gay’s to be priests – again it may stated in the bible homosexuality is wrong but culturally the United Church has accepted gay people culturally amongst it’s membership, even into it’s leadership.

thanks for your post. i understand what you mean when you feel that the lds community took it hard when your husband became inactive. the thing is that faithful church-going active lds members take their faith very very literally and when one goes astray it just seems they think “how could they turn away like that” ?

what i have learned to do myself is to not take things in the church too literally or else I would go crazy. sometimes i just try to deal with the here and now first instead of dwelling on who I’m going to disappoint in the hereafter.

dealing with “beliefs” can really be a balancing act sometimes. for me i have found life is hard enough in the here and now and worrying about the here-after is secondary.

in spite of my approach to living life, which is not typical of an active latter day saint, i do make a point of being christ-like to others and try not to rock the boat when people upset me.

i have studied the alien ufo phenomena as far as I am able from what is available on the net. we don’t have to look too far from Mormon scripture to support the belief of life elsewhere in the universe.

Case in point are verses from the Pearl of Great Price in the book of Moses as shown below:

    chapter 7:29 – 30

“29 And Enoch said unto the Lord: How is it that thou canst weep, seeing thou art holy, and from all eternity to all eternity ?

30 And were it possible that man could number the particles of the earth, yea, millions of earths like this, it would not be a beginning to the number of thy creations; and thy curtains are stretched out still; and yet thou art there, and thy bosom is there; and also thou art just; thou art merciful and kind forever;”

    Also Moses 1:35 states:

“But only an account of this earth, and the inhabitants thereof, give I unto you. For behold, there are many worlds that have passed away by the word of my power. And there are many that now stand, and innumerable are they unto man; but all things are numbered unto me, for they are mine and I know them.”

Some of you have some neat ideas regarding theories relating to man`s origin but what is lacking in the alien – ufo phenomena literature is explanations for how the planet earth got here.

We do have the genesis basis for how we got here (our planet earth) but again the Pearl of Great Price comes to the rescue for another explanation that keeps the so-called theories of evolution and creationism from conflicting with each other found in the book of Abraham:

    Chapter 3:24 – 25

    “24 And there stood one among them that was like unto God, and he said unto those who were with him: We will go down, for there is space there, and we will take of these materials, and we will make an earth whereon these may dwell;

25 And we will prove them herewith, to see if they will do all things whatsoever the Lord their God shall command them;”

Consider the analogy of planet earth being a wooden desk. The earth has been stated as being 3.5 billion years old.The creation as in the scriptures states it took 6 days (if you consider what it says in Abraham 3:4 that God`s time or reckoning being that a day unto God is one thousand of our earth years – the earth may have taken 6000 earth years to create).

You can take wood from a tree that is say 20 years old (it`s materials) and make a desk that will take 2 days to make. Thus the desk is only one month old a month after it`s creation. Consider this with the earth. The earth itself could very well have been created by materials that are 3.5 billion years old but in reality (in my humble estimation) planet earth is just 13000 years old.

(6000 earth years for the creation, 1000 earth years for God`s day of rest, and then 6000 earth years(since that Lord`s day of rest from his creation (or mankind`s history since Adam and Eve) = 13000 earth years)
