ParticipantJust to provide some balance, today my wife’s new visiting teacher came up to introduce herself to my wife. She talked for 5 minutes, introduced herself to my daughters and asked their names. Didn’t even make eye contact with me or say one word. I was the invisible man. ParticipantUnfortunately, Mormons are people and people are all nuts. Brown
ParticipantI’ll be honest. I’ve don’t think I have ever had a testimony. Brown
ParticipantI also envision the guy trying to get your husband to rat out on your full name out of an attempt at an icebreaker, or whatever. Obviously I wasn’t there, but this doesn’t sound like an evil sexist man who expects women to not make eye contact and walk 2 paces behind. And then he’s teaching class and you turn it into something sexist so what is he supposed to do? Stop and apologize? I see lots of posts on here lately where women are trying to make even the tiniest individual offense as a church-wide sexist behavior by all men. And honestly, that seems sexist more than this guy.

ParticipantHow about a career and 1-2 kids? It’s not an either/or. Many women do both.
It is definitely a personal choice only you can make, but I will say that 99% of the time, older people without kids feel pretty empty and regret their choice to skip out on that part of life.

notour code of health. It’s as good as any first presidency letter intended for a specific time and situation. It has been superseded. Do we not believe in continuing revelation? If it is actually revelation. There is no official declaration regarding the Word of Wisdom and when asked for clarification, church leaders just reference the words of section 89.

I would say that “mild” beer is perfectly in line with the original message of the Word of Wisdom, but that many (if not most) of the current beer options are not. Generally speaking, beer is not nearly as mild as it used to be. Also, the original said explicitly, “not by way of command” – but that was changed decades later, due, imo, to the radical increase in alcohol advertising and the rise of “non-mild” options being marketed as just fine and dandy.
.
Certain states (like Utah) mandate really low Beer alcohol standards. In Utah, you can’t just go to the 7-11 and get a 6-pack with greater than 3.2% alcohol. That means it’s like Three cans of beer to equal one shot of hard liquor. That’s pretty mild. You’d need a 12-pack to get very drunk. Most other states sell the normal beer that’s in the 6-7% range. Still going to take a 6 pack before you feel much.
Even a “high alcohol” beer is only in the teens. Hard liquors like Vodka, Rum, Tequila are in the 40-50% range with some going as high as 75% and are in a whole different league.

ParticipantI helped with a blessing recently after work and my wife suggested I needed to stop home first and change into a white shirt. I just had a colored polo on. I said, no it’s fine and she insisted I would be looking silly when the other guys showed up in suits. Not that I would have really worried about it either way, but one of the other people who is a stake patriarch showed up in a colored collared shirt, no tie and a sweater and the other guy also showed up right after work in jeans. The priesthood is about helping others, not the uniform. Brown
ParticipantI don’t think it is incredibly helpful to look at it this way, but if you just want the math: 100,000,000,000 estimated total people born on this planet.
14,000,000 reported LDS members
20% estimated members have temple recommend (remember the church has a loose definition of membership for record keeping, and a large percentage are children)
So 100,000,000,000 ÷ 2,800,000 Temple record holders = more than 35,000 sessions each.
Although if the millenium really lasts 1,000 years, that’s not even 1 per week per TR holder so from a pure logistics standpoint, it doesn’t sound all that impossible.

ParticipantThanks for the feedback and kinds words. I think back to experiences like getting sealed to my family in the temple and I had the same feeling only stronger. But other times, like blessing my own baby, I didn’t feel much (other than stage fright). Usually it is when others are leading and I am just along for the ride as a fully willing participant. Maybe I don’t have enough faith, but I can latch on to others if I am in the right place with the right frame of mind.
Still trying to figure this out. I’m not a very spiritual person.

ParticipantYou know, Utah just has the highest Internet usage and saturation rate, anyway (per capita) so it kind of follows that with more internet usage come more people using it to look at the porn they’d have bought anyway. http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/politics/52881411-90/broadband-companies-homes-internet.html.csp Brown
ParticipantHere’s a new one: Utah in the top 5 of happiest states:

ParticipantYour worthiness is between you and the lord. If you feel worthy, answer as you need to in order to get the paperwork out of the way. Brown
ParticipantTraditionally home teachers would be the first choice. Or any other member of the ward you are friendly with would probably love to help. Bishopric will generally make these kinds of requests a priority if you wanted to call them. And it’s not a big deal to anyone, this is what the priesthood is for. Brown
ParticipantEasy explanation: Polygamy was a BS commandment all along and DC 132 is a total sham.
