ParticipantMe too. My singing is even worse than my playing so I strive to be courteous and not try with anyone around.

ParticipantEither that or the Lord provided us the gospel at the beginning of the restoration and we just continue to stray further and further away from it. That would be more in line with what the scriptures say is going to happen IMHO.
But either way, yes, I’m sure we’re on the verge of further change.

Participant“This is not a cry you can hear at night, It’s not somebody who has seen the light,
It’s a cold and a broken Hallelujah”
Very beautiful and, it seems, a cry out for the “devine”.
I remember Hartman Rector Jr. introducing a song at a stake conference many years ago. He said something to the effect of:
“You’ll feel the spirit in this song because all the good music has already been written on the other side. (All the bad music has too) You don’t think that Mozart surprised the Lord with anything, do ya?”

Hallelujah is such a song IMHO.
This young lady nails it as well:

ParticipantAm I the only one that finds it strange to keep pictures of a bearded Jesus in the temples? If the Lord shows up tomorrow and wants to officiate in some ordinances, is he gonna have to shave?

ParticipantGood points Sam. That whole spreading the wealth and feeding the poor mentality, or giving away all your riches, wouldn’t fly very well today…at least in the red states

My understanding is that a Jewish rabbi of the time would have probably been required to be married. I understand that cutting his hair would have been taboo as well.

ParticipantI guess I see “sinless” and “guilty” as polar opposites. IMO you can’t be both. I could be incorrect. I don’t think asking HF why he’d forsaken him was imperfect at all. It simply appeared to him briefly that he had.
Little is known of his mortal life and what is written in the gospels was written by people many years after the facts. We probably know even less than we think we do.
Just my thoughts…

ParticipantI’ve always felt that God calls prophets and church members call leaders (church presidents included). If the early church had voted to not sustain JS as prophet, I don’t think God would have realized some mistake on his part and picked someone else. I guess I would honestly research what a Prophet is….what a Revelator is….and what constitutes a Seer.
If the current folks meet those descriptions, then sustain them.
If not…

ParticipantSorry the discussion didn’t go the way “you wanted it” Ray. Maybe everyone isn’t up to your level of spiritual understanding.
Well, Jacob speaks several times of “comfort”. How is one to “comfort”?
“Healing the sick” is mentioned but I don’t suppose we should ask for that either.
Unicorns and sunshine, I suppose.

ParticipantSurely not Sam, according to the government…it was the lack of gun control and China has plenty of that. Many are wondering if this god of miracles and god of healing couldn’t have prevented this.
Some say he could, but chose not to.
If that’s the case, what is the point of praying for someone? Surely some of these parents prayed that their children would be kept safe.
Just a thought:
Does this reveal priesthood “blessings” as wastes of time….since He is going to do, and allow, as He sees fit despite any of our pleas?
How about putting someone’s name on a temple roll?
Seems rather futile.
But we should have “faith” and shouldn’t question. I guess.

ParticipantThanks for that Ray. Excellent article. Bruce in Montana
ParticipantSo where was our loving God yesterday? Was he a no-show? What kind of a monster can go into a kindergarden classroom and start shooting crying little kids?
What are we going to do as a society?
Stricter gun laws aren’t working (CT has some of the strictest).
Locked doors on schools isn’t working. (He broke through the glass)
Identifying problem individuals isn’t working. (This creep was an honor student)
Banning guns would never work. (Heroin and meth are banned also)
Blaming guns doesn’t work. (That’s like blaming silverware for obesity)
I’m at a loss for suggestions. Many have suggested arming teachers. Frighteningly, that actually makes the most sense.
What are these parents supposed to do this morning when they wake up, if they slept, and their little children are gone? Should they pray? Should we pray for them?
It sometimes seems that “faith” has no answers….it just serves to stop the questions.

ParticipantGood discussion. I am weary of the years trying to convince myself that somewhere in an ordinary funerary document, there was a writing by Abraham that, doggonit…somehow got lost. After that didn’t work, it was trying to convince myself that it was just a catalyst that was somehow needed to bring forth much-needed scripture. That’s pretty much fizzed out too.
As I grow older and, hopefully, a little wiser…it gets harder to pretend.
As far as the BOM being inspired fiction….I passed the fiction part and am grasping for a few straws of the inspired part.

ParticipantI would hope this would go over well in Utah with their reported anti-depressant drug issues. As noted above, AA, NA, etc do focus on honesty and self-examination. The original 12-step program was popularized by a hopeless drunk stockbroker and a washed-up alcoholic doctor. It helps pretty much anyone who does what it recommends.
I’m not sure if the corporate ego would allow it in it’s pure form. They’ll probably need to “improve” it somehow.

ParticipantWell, I certainly need the church, my wife needs the church, and our granddaughter needs the church. But I don’t attend….and I won’t attend.
Maybe someday the church will come clean on it’s history…but I doubt it. It seems that everyone that explores it honestly ends up leaving out of disgust.
All is not well in Zion. Its very sad.

ParticipantGosh…. I just want to know the truth. And the truth is not relative. God is, or he isn’t.
If my search leads me closer to the corporate church or mormonism in general…great…..if it becomes apparent that things are false….great.
What I’m not interested in is apologies, cover-ups, and ignoring facts……life is too short for me to spend it with my head in the sand.
Frankly, I really haven’t found a site that is dedicated to that end. It seems everyone has an agenda other than simple truth.
