Thus the reason I stated what “I” would do.

“insensitive about a family practice”? Really?

She’s been telling this clown to stop for a year.

Some might call that “insensitivity” on the part of this adult male….some might call it stereotypical behavior of a very sick person. Personally I would err on the side of caution and raise enough hell to have his butt bounced out of the bishopric but, heck….what do I know?

Oh that’s right….a family might get “labeled”. My bad.

    Blatant sarcasm intended.

I started not to comment…went outside and did some work and couldn’t get it out of my mind.

Have we forgotten the scandals of the Catholic priests from a few years back?

Let me get this straight…you have been warning this creep for over a year to have zero texts to your kids without your consent and he still persists?

I would suggest contacting the SP and/or child protective services immediately. I wouldn’t wait until in the morning.

I don’t have words to address the individual who would even consider being “labeled” as some sort of warning not to protect your children…. Hell, stand up in Fast/testimony meeting and let everyone know what this guy is doing.

How can anyone worry about being “labeled” when peoples’ kids well-being is at stake?

I wonder how many Catholic childrens’ lives were ruined because some wimpy parent didn’t want to be “labeled”?

    I’m sorry….mean no disrespect….but that “labeled” warning is …. what’s the word?

    SICK

I’m afraid that as long as the majority of the folks on the podium are white guys with conservative haircuts and business suits, diversity is going to be a token gesture at best. Sometimes, out of disgust, I think we should just chunck it all…everyone show up with just the scriptures….let’s read them for what they really say and start over.

    I’m not holding my breath.

There is a huge, and growing, anti-corporate sentiment in our country. Especially in the current political climate.

Perhaps forcing missionaries to portray white-collar types is not conducive to attracting those that subscribe to it.

It could be percieved as the notion that white-collar is somehow “better” or at least…something that one should aspire to become.

With a pulpit full of business men, I don’t expect that to change anytime soon, however.

IMHO a step in the right direction might be to reconsider those “men in black” costumes that the missionaries wear.

I don’t know anywhere in the world….ok…maybe Utah or at a funeral…where that is considered proper attire anymore. Especially in a working class environment.

Who thinks this stuff up? Let’s see….we want to attract people to our religion….I know…..lets dress young men up in business suits and send them out on bicycles. Really?

    Yep.

    Sad situation.

Perhaps as bad is the way us mormons treat those with alcohol and/or drug addictions.

We don’t know how to fix it so the easiest, and perhaps most cruel, thing to do is to treat is as a moral issue.

    Yep.

I hesitate to quote Brigham Young, since no one listens to him anyway…but he said something to the effect that “you shouldn’t speak in church unless moved on by the spirit”.

The current corporate website even gives advice on how to “prepare” “talks”.

I’ve attended services at the AUB congregations here in Montana and they call members up to the podium during sacrament….no preparation…no d*** teleprompters…no notes…nothing. They just randomly call members up to speak.

The most sincere services I have ever attended. Very spiritual.

I’ll throw my unsolicited opinion in the mix.

    Here we go:

Mary was indeed sealed to HF. Possibly when she was overcome with the spirit. There is no incest there due to the many generations that had past.

An exalted being, with a body of flesh, bones, and water…breeds with a mortal being of flesh, bones, and blood. The result is a being that, when you pierce a sword in his side, would emit…..yep…..blood and water.

I’m probably reaching here but ya gotta explain it somehow…. 🙂

I’ve always wondered if those of us born into impoverished situations or developmentaly disabled folks were, in fact, the more valiant. Maybe they are here to teach us charity and compassion toward others….whether they be poor individuals, groups, or nations.

    No scriptural backup….just speculation.

“the last shall be first” and all that stuff.

    I’m gonna vote YES….

However, I eat way too much meat…probably every day.

    I drink beer, but I don’t over-indulge…..and I don’t drink hard liquor or wine.

I enjoy a good cigar when fly-fishing from time to time.

For a formal TR interview, I would flunk. Between me and the Lord, I feel that I’m just fine.

    Well, except the meat thing.

I can’t help but remembering Joseph Smith’s admonition (paraphrasing)…. “If anything contradicts a former revelation, put it down as a lie”. Making a suggestion that is clearly meant to be “NOT a commandment” into a “commandment”….is a contradiction. Please straighten me out if I’m incorrect here.

So…IMHO…If you are taking it as “good advise” and not some “commandment”….you ARE living the WoW….

    Right?

Joseph Smith warned us and what did we do? ….. Fell right into it. And here we are.

Personally, I’d love to take a time machine back to Nauvoo and share a beer with the prophet. I’d also love to talk with Brigham Young regarding Adam-God and the “racism” thing …. I can’t help but wonder what his reaction would be if I told him that in the future, if he wanted to be a temple worker…he would have to shave.

    God bless us all…

    What have we become?

What used to be angelic visitations and visions that produced “thus saith the Lord” revelations has morphed into “still small voice” inspiration. Although some might call that “revelation”…depending upon who is receiving it.

I can’t think of a religion that changed with society to be more popular more than Mormonism did to acquire Utah statehood.

Many of our scriptures encourage us to be working toward a sort of socialist utopia with no rich or poor among us. We’re building shopping malls.

I think that the current trend toward members leaving and/or becoming disillusioned might be, in part, helped by the Church(TM) being transparent as to where the financial resources go.

I paid my 10% for many years and would like to know where it went.

    I went from being a TBM to a fundamentalist to….heck, I don’t know anymore.

Does anyone know where/when/why the current policy of nondisclosure started? The powers-that-be have to know that this is causing a huge problem. Hopefully, they will start listening to the membership soon.

The Church(TM) provides a wonderful service for many folks/families, but, these problems really need to be addressed IMHO.

Now…today. Not next week or next year. How does one get the message to the top?

    Wow.

The purpose of this website is, supposedly, to help folks stay LDS despite problems in the Church(TM).

It feels, sometimes, that we’re all holding back from the opinions that what we call “the Church” has become an ugly corporate oligarchy.

What haunts me, and maybe some of you, is the question “What do we do now when we realize that things are so wrong?”

Several years back I had to ask the local BP for some help with rent….Since I enjoy an mild barley drink from time-to-time and hadn’t paid 10% in a while, I was denied. I told him that he was throwing King Benjamin’s admonitions under the bus but he pointed to the pictures on his wall of the 1st Presidency. Apparently, the handbood of instructions is more important than the word of God.

Please tell me that the “prophet of God” did not say “one, two, three…Let’s go shopping”….

How many single parents are out there that could use a hundred bucks, or so, to make ends meet this month?

    This is getting past pathetic.
