ParticipantThe most blatant leader worship is from the leaders themselves. Constantly saying how great each other are. Quoting each other. Backslapping at its finest. It is a system built on the notion that we are all equal but some are more equal. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

ParticipantNot into genealogy myself. I-get the fascination for some and think it a good hobby and is very interesting for some. My view is. 99% of the people who have lived there is no record of. Most people come and go on this planet hardly leaving a footprint. Thats my plan fade out of existence and make room for future generations to experience life.

ParticipantI think some policies and practices have improved. My complaint is the youth programs is a former shadow of what i had 40 yers ago. Gone is the fun activities and replaced with tedious “faith building” programs. No wonder the youth are leaving. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

ParticipantI figure I paid enough tithing for 30 years to more than cover any costs associated with my limited use of church facilities. Throw in all the volunteer time and I think I am good till I die. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

ParticipantI had a leader of some kind on my mission a long time ago theorize the HG was not a person but an office, held by different individuals at different times before the came to mortality. He loved to say Joseph Smith filled the position for a time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

ParticipantI have been reading Gosples. It seems evident Jesus did not organize a church per se with strict rules and regulations. That seems to have come after with followers. I do not disagree that church can have positive aspects, but I also think you can live a Fulfilling life never setting foot in church.
Personally I find church to mind numbing to participate anymore, yet i don’t feel any kind of void in my life. If anything I hunger for more knowledge which I can access multiple places without the filter a church wants to put on it.

ParticipantApply the atonement is just a Mormon catchphrase. What does it even mean? When peoples lives suck Mormons think this notion of an ambiguous atonement helps. I am an old fashion bootstrap kind of person. If it is to be it is up to me.

ParticipantI hear people say their prayers were answered bit I have never had that experience. Perhaps i set the bar to high. Its not an answer if its coincidence. If something could have happened either way how is that a prayer answered? The scriptures are full of dramatic events in response to prayer. But in modern times we get nothing. Pres nelson has called for two world wide days of prayer for covid relief. You could say they were effective because alot more people could have died. You also can say they were useless because we still have covid.
So if answers to prayers are just a matter of perspective, they only have value if you find value in prayer. I don’t find value because I have never been able to change the outcome of anything with prayer.
I have at times felt like I got unsolicited feelings or assurance from time to time, but never in response to prayer.

ParticipantOne day i realized all the anguish over perceived sins was not helping. The notion of repentance is a concept I avoid. I just try to live by the golden rule and leave it at that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

ParticipantI would define a miracle as something that happens beyond coincidence. An amputee growing an arm back, or asteroid hurling toward earth being deflected at the last moment. If something would have or could have happened anyway its coincidence not a miracle. Correlation does not mean causation It is somewhat arrogant I think to claim god found your keys but ignores the please of someone in far greater distress.
Is god more concerned that you get to work on time than delivering someone from human bondage?
To apply a miracle to something so mundane as car keys diminishes what a true miracle is.

Why would we want to worship a god who hides and lets is suffer. Makes no senseMaybe God does expect us to worship. Maybe instead of the “sovereign God” who sees us as servants and expects worship, God really is the loving parent God LDS theology alludes to (Givens’s God who weeps)? What if God can’t prevent our suffering because it’s part of the plan and God is limited in the ability to interact because of covenants and laws God must obey? What if God “hides” because there is no other option?
I am fine with a God who cant interact, but that is a one way street. If the theology says you must do this and that but God really cant assist or even tell you you are doing OK, that is a lopsided relationship.
I just can not keep checking the boxes with no feedback. It has worn me out.

ParticipantShort of a vaccine it seems we are just delaying the inevitable. Eventually it will run its course. It may be ugly but there is no good answer. Shutting everything down has a host of issues every bit as dangerous. I think the church is correct open with caution Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

ParticipantAny organization will impose more and more hoops to jump through in an attempt to squeeze a little more compliance from its members. We see this in many corporations where middle management sends down edicts of conformance, to justify the need for their existence. The church is no different. The more you get someone to buy into your authority, the more your authority is needed. Without the constant reinforcement at church of how important the leaders are, we may find people become less willing to conform to their edicts. People may realize they are doing just fine not jumping through hoops.
