I just watched part of the Nightline story about the FLDS. It seems to me over time that they have been led very astray and I think a few (more) people putting their foot down and not tolerating abuse of power would have stopped them.
Indeed.
Btw. Has the church ever talked about this in like GC talk or something?

Interesting. Is there anything we as members can do to remedy the problem of garment requirements?

ParticipantThat is a nice post SD. Very heart felt and honest. Thanks. Peace

ParticipantYes. I would consider him a hero. Took a lot of guts to simply do what is right and let the consequences follow. cwald
ParticipantGood stuff. cwald

Yeah. This is a serious, serious problem within the Mormon church…

Yeah. This is a serious, serious problem within the Mormon church. I have an opinion but nobody cares what I think.
I care. In fact I put great value on what you have to say.By the way God does not care what underwear you wear. They are an invention of men. Perhaps the best thing that could happen to the church is everyone stopped going to the temple. We may then have to look inward to find spirituality instead of relying on outward manifestations of our obedience.
Thank you.
I agree about the Temple. Things will not change until enough members stand up to the corporation. As long as most active members who share this concern continue to wear garments out of fear, shame and blind obedience just to pass a litmus test to get a temple recommend, i doubt much will change faster than a snail pace.
Obviously I’m no longer patient or content to wait for the church to catch up to the god’s standards.

ParticipantI was just agreeing with what SD mentioned earlier…i agree… it feels to me that when people generally use phases like “this is a problem in all churches, just not ours…” it comes across as a conversion and discussion stopper more than an attempt to get at the heart of the issue and problems. ParticipantI get what you are saying SD. The “this is a problem in all churches, just not ours…” excuse just does not work for me at this time. cwald
ParticipantI believe we do have the moral high ground when we take the Nancy Reagon, and Spencer Kimball approach and advise… JUST DO IT. Do what is right and let the consequences follow. To me personally this is not a nuisanced discussion at all. Mom3 is correct. … just do it.
