Curt I have enjoyed reading your comments over the past few years and I am grateful for your participation. I wish you the best with this new phase in life and I am glad to hear that you’ll still be around a bit. To have been active hear for 11 years is quite a feat and especially have almost 1/8 of all site participation be your own. :clap:

But seriously, thank you for being here. This site helps a lot of people that never post/make accounts. Like how I was for years before there was a topic that I just had to comment on. :think: Even though I’ve moved on from participating at an LDS church this site helps me to navigate the online LDS communities I still participate in and not get too annoyed people.

So I literally made an account to respond to this.

As a young 20-something year old woman I have experience reading this type of fanfic as a teen. I turned out fine and really it is a very common thing that teenage girls (and boys) do. I would not worry at all. Honestly most of it is written by teenage and young twenties girls; a lot of it is self insert stuff. [a girl writes a character is that basically her interacting with her favorite characters/actors/band members/etc] So I wouldn’t worry about the nefarious motives of fanfic writers at all.

All I would worry about is teaching her how a healthy relationship looks. Fanfic is not known for having good healthy relationships seeing as it is mainly written by nerdy girls that have little to no relationship experience. Lastly I don’t know what your daughter read but do not be too hard on her. Please.

Fun fact: the term Marry Sue originated in the fanfic world to complain about the perfect self insert characters that are so common. Now back to lurking like I’ve done for five years.
