Hawkgrrrl, I really would like to add to your comment, but I fear that Ray is watching.

ParticipantGlad I skipped the movie, this thread has been much more entertaining. fwiw, before my fall from grace I would have seen the mans sacrifice as an incredible act of faith. Post fall and after reading “The Mysteries of Godliness- a history of Mormon temple worship- I see it as a complete waste of time, and money. This is just my opinion. Fatherof4husbandof1
ParticipantDoes the “Strengthening Church Members Committee” actually strengthen any members? From what I’ve read so far on this thread the name sounds very misleading. Fatherof4husbandof1
Participantcwald, thank you for sharing, that e-mail was —priceless—- Fatherof4husbandof1
Participantcanadiangirl This would upset me also. What does your husband think? I have to be careful when conflict involves my children so that I don’t over react and later regret having acted so abruptly. Patients and thoughfulness are almost always safe answers but are not my first choices when I feel that me or my family have been wronged. May wisdom guide your actions.

I think the definition of the bishop’s role, as judge and jury and confidant, is a fundamental weakness that the church would do well to address.
I agree with your point. In fact, after growing up in the church confessing, hearing confessions in disciplinary counsels and learning of the disastrous effects that other members have had after confessing to their Bishop, I would advise anyone against confessing anything to their Bishop. Unless you want that asterisk on your membership.

Participantcwald, even if you were satanic and gay, you are greatly loved. Do you think some people feel threatened by the power you have in expressing your opinion and the “drawing force” you have on others? Fatherof4husbandof1
ParticipantSo, the first vision, the Kirtland temple visions, John the baptist, Peter James and John were all “spiritual visions?” I think most church members belive that they were as real as Jesus coming down from the heavens to visit the Nephites after his resurection. They all went one by one and touched him! If that is true, why have resurected beings traded in their flesh and bones for spirits? Are they too busy on Kolob to come in person?

ParticipantTom Haws wrote:“profit”? Careful. This is staylds.com, not recovery from Mormonism.
I’m sorry, I am the worst speller in the world! It’s off the topic, but what is recovery from Mormonism?
Ray is there a fee for the spell check? cash, check, credit, or paypall?

It depends. I don’t like the way JS and other church leaders talked about polygamy and did. The coerision of young girls. Taking married mens wives. Lying behind Emma’s back.
nice BN! Didn’t we learn the lesson the first time? I’m with cwald in his kingdom. Besides, to go to the Celestial Kingdom one must participate in plural marriage? Or was that prophet “speaking out of turn?”
[This is Ray. I corrected the spelling of “prophet”, but I am adding this note so that Tom’s comment that follows makes sense.

ParticipantIMO That would be a huge step in the correct direction! If you havn’t listened to the Dr. William Bradshaw(former BYU profesor, mission president and father of a gay son) podcasts I would highly recomend them. f4h1

ParticipantFor me, “True” means just that! True – litteral, historical, No bending, No twisting, No mental gymnastics etc… these are tools used to make the truth what I want it to be rather than what it is. f4h1

ParticipantQuote:cwald…I listened to a mormon podcast yesterday, where it was stated that this is the GREATEST mormon apologetic argument EVER invented. EVER. BS!
That’s exactly what I call it!

ParticipantIt seems that God is okay with his prophets having it both ways. I just wish there was a proclaimation to clarify an official list of true prophecies and “just opinions” there are so many that its hard for me to keep them all straight. Could we start by just saying that all of BY’s prophecies were just his opinions? f4h1
