ParticipantCG great advise has been given in the previous posts, sadly I have little more to offer other than to say that I feel the same way. Me toocanadiangirl wrote… I seem to be getting angrier with each week. My question, “Will God take away our free agency in the next life?” My answer, “NO” If two people love each other and want to be together will God separate them?I love the symbolism of my celestial marriage and I don’t want that nullified (I really don’t believe it would literally be but still). I want a forever family. see D&C 121:39The church feels like an emotionally abusive authority figure and I am angry about that. Amen sister! If I hear the word “worthy” one more time I just might scream. ya, my perfect Sunday would end with sharing a mild barley drink with cwald!Experiment upon the word so to speak without the ever-present guilt and shame that I feel on any given Sunday. same here!Basically I’m just tired of feeling like crap every Sunday. I don’t feel spiritually uplifted by anything at church and I don’t feel like I can contribute much with the attitude I have right now. Good idea, fasting can be painful, but our bodies naturally produce increased amounts of endorphins that make us feel good even though we are a bit weak(low blood sugar) and humble. People have told of incredible spiritual experiences, feelings and visions when being deprived of food.I’m going to fast and pray about it tomorrow, again, I agree!but I thought I would get the greatest ward on earth’s thoughts.f4h1

Very good! I will be thinking about this for quite some time. I may even post it on the door for all at our home to read as they leave each day. Thanks Ray!

I think you will feel welcome here, and people here are very good at understanding, but It sounds to me like you may have not come across many of the big problems that some people have with the church. The issues I refer to cause people to sometimes loose their belief in the church and Its leaders and at times leave the church. Please stay if you want to, but I feel that it is impossible to participate in this blog site without learning many, if not all of the things that are not common to the knowledge of many members. However, if that is what you are looking for, there are many very smart and well educated members here that are caring and wise.

Grumpy and middle-aged perhaps, but you look clean shaven in your portrait!
😆 Very good post! I haven’t listened to the podcast yet, I will down load it tonight since this is one of my soap boxes. IMO the church has a reputation of being the last ones to let go of yesterdays bad behavior and embrace all with love and equality. A few examples… ERA, Blacks, gays.
I guess I’ve met too many women that are at least equal if not better than men in many ways! I have too many Black friends to think for a second that they are any less than I am. If you don’t have a gay friend then go make one and open your heart, you will find a child of God that just wants to be accepted and loved like the rest of us. If you still think that they choose that life, or are that way because of sin,(as some church leaders have in error taught) then listen to William Bradshaw’s podcast for the mountain evidence that they are born that way. I have herd stories of Christian parents disowning their gay children, how sad, how pathetic, how hypocritical!

ParticipantNice topic, SD My belief in God is close to the descriptions of Cadence and the DA. I havn’t been free from the chains long enough to extensivly explore this concept, but I do feel that being free I am in a bigger ocean that I am now at liberty to explore.
Anxiously awaiting the answers from others, and cwald

ParticipantGreenTangerine Can we call you GT? I really enjoyed your intro. I think you’ll like it here, we have an alien, an ape, a unicorn, one of the Star Trek officers, a chick from Canada, but no Tangerines, until now.
Okay,
Quote:GT wrote …The polygamy, blacks in priesthood, origins of the book of mormon, attitudes towards homosexuals, treatment of women, etc. were all big issues for me.
I put a lot of these on the shelf for many years.

know what you mean, its the stuff that comes from the church archives that more easily pierces my armor!
Quote:when asked if he would ever leave the church, my husband has said he would if something unexplainable ever came out. i tell him about the book of abraham,
GT if there ever was anything that was unexplainable to me it is the whole Book of Abraham thing. Yes, the BoA “broke” the shelf and all the other items came crashing down around me. I hope you can find what you need here. Welcome

He will not commit himself to pursuing it beyond a certain point. All the messy history is fine as long as he can still make it work within his own desires to believe in Mormonism. I guess that is OK, but you can not fault the person who learns all the same stuff and makes the conclusion it is one big fraud. YOu really can take it either way depending on your perspective.
Yeah, I think that is what he is saying when he states, “you have to WANT to believe it, and you have to like the idea of mordern day prophets….” It’s almost like he is saying that he want’s to believe it, he likes the idea of having a prophet that speaks with god, so he going to believe it – regardless of the facts – because of the facts, one can construct a conclusion either way.
Cadence, cwald I agree, As I listened to the podcast I felt the same way.

ParticipantNice thread Brown I think its funny when someone thinks that giving money to the church = giving money to God!
I believe that I am giving back to God whenever I do as I believe He or She would. I’m giving back to God when I provide my family with shelter, food, clothing, education, safety, transportation, opportunity to improve and better help and serve others! Therefore, about 70-80% or more of my income after taxes goes to Gods purposes. I will probably never again give 10% of my income to the church, but I will give what I think is my share of the up-keep. However I will continue with the goal of giving as close to 100%
to Godas I am able. f4h1

ParticipantTom Haws wrote:As Brian said, hyperbole and fervent partisanship are human nature.
I find this concept very intriguing!
So, What does it mean, or what does it say about a person that cares more about “their team, school, religion, or political figure than the truth?
Example- I know people that will not say a critical word about President Bush (this is just an example I could use Opera, the Dallas Cowboys, Delta Airlines, Ford trucks, any religion, or the color purple). Every thing he did was correct they claim! He’s an incredible man! On and on, all good, nothing bad!
Other people say exactly the opposite. Every decision JWB made in his life was wrong even drinking 2% milk instead of skim!
In reality, “the truth” is that he made some good and some bad decisions. Why can’t some people just look at all these things objectively and call it how they see it and not how they “Want” it to be? They can’t handle the “truth” or is it something else like what is “mine” is better than yours?
PS I appreciate all your posts. To better understand truth, one must look at all viewpoints of life not just the “Dogmatic view of the Jedi”

ParticipantBrown, Sorry I havn’t been on the site for a few days. There are a lot of stage fiver’s on this site, I doubt I will ever leave stage 4 so.. GBH said something like, “This church is exactly what it claims to be or it is the biggest fraud ever” My answer, “this church is far from what it claims to be! Therefore …..

Participantsilentstruggle Thanks for sharing. Mental illness can be very challenging to deal with. I hope that new meds and or treatments will some day offer better relief. It is heart wrenching when you have so much hope and faith yet the promised healing doesn’t come. Then of course we have to spin it to keep our faith unscathed. I think the answer is simple and obvious, “the emperor is naked!”

The older I get and the more I read about BY, the more I dislike his character. His writings/sermons on polygamy and race issues really give me the creeps. I think he was a good leader as far as keeping the church afloat – but I also think he was very cruel and lacked compassion, especially for women, blacks and EVERYONE who disagreed with his belief system.
I see very little of “christ-like” attitude from him to be honest. I doubt I would have remained a member if I lived under his “tyranny.”
I was collecting my thoughts on BY when I read the previous
epistle of cwaldthat took the words right out of my mouth! I am indebted to him though for giving me plenty of reason to doubt that he was “called of God” I can’t imagine a “Heaven” with BY in charge, sounds more like the other place! f4h1
