    Wow.. hard choice!

Even though I am gong to a Community of Christ Church, I am going with #2. I do think that after BY left for the west, things started to change a lot. Don’t get me wrong about BY, I do have a testimony of him because the whole succession crisis was tough on everyone. He did the best he could, but I wonder sometimes if the interpretation of what The Lord wanted could have been misunderstood. JS (and his family) had a gift of communication with the Lord, I would imagine that it would be harder to get everything right the same JS did.

You have to taste it to make sure it is drinkable! Made me laugh. πŸ˜† Do you have a cleaver name for the brew? Too bad you are so far away, you sound like someone who is fun to hang out with!

What do you do when missionaries ask to come and share a message with your family?

I am always nice to the missionaries when they come over. I usually talk to them in the front yard, tell them a bit about our family and ask them about where they are from. They usually ask if they can stop by another day and teach us but I politely decline saying we aren’t ready. I wish them well and the visit is over.

Being polite and nice is the only way to treat them. :) I admire their work and hope they find others to teach that are ready.

If the YW were a part of the preparation, I don’t think that would happen! Someone might go the extra mile and MAKE HOMEMADE bread!

Here is one for you.. In my CofC experience, the Elder is a lady who reads the same prayers LDS does. It is very interesting to hear a lady say it.

As for your idea, I love it!

    – has a testimony, fully believes in the church, has no faith crisis, he doesn’t read or study so I doubt he even knows of all the inconsistencies in history etc

    – believes that he will go back one day, just not ready yet

    – enjoys the people, the classes, the activities when he goes

    – goes away on golfing holidays with a group if high priests/bishops/etc and does all the right things

    – wants children to go to church and be fully active

    – happy for wife to as well and encourages/supports (well that’s what comes out of his mouth!)

I wish I could have had those things with my DW. I would do just about anything for my Wife to do the things quoted.

Your Husband is awesome. He only wants the best for you, if leaving your hard calling will help than you should. Remember, family is always first. Middle road can be hard but if you have a good support system in place, it will work. I love family trips to the park and big breakfasts on Sunday, they are special. Enjoy your kids while you have them.

I think this is a good way of looking at anything. Change will happen within the ranks, not from the outside. I have also had powerful revelation regarding different aspects of my life. It is special when it happens, don’t ever forget it. Sometimes it takes time to figure out what He is trying to tell you, but you always figure it out eventually because the spirit will also tell you it is correct.

God bless you and I look forward to seeing other posts.

Welcome Sheldon. This board is a good place with less hate on the LDS faith. I am a recent member here as well.

Good luck with everything and I hope to hear more about you in coming posts.

    Great topic!

People start this habit for many reasons. For me, I struggled with this for years based on all the reasons in the “Let Virtue Garnish Thy Thoughts” page 9..

    Quote:

Indulgence in pornography often occurs in a cycle. If you are engaged in this cycle, you may dwell on inappropriate thoughts, scenes, and images in response to boredom, loneliness, curiosity, stress, discouragement, or conflict. Then you place yourself in situations that lead you to pornography. Afterward, you may feel discouraged and repeat the cycle.

I was exposed to Porn well before the internet via dial up BBSes when I was around 14 or so (1992). It has made the addiction a very strong adversary because I was exposed to it so young. This cycle has been on and off my whole life because of the above reasons. Some of those reasons were because I could not get my Wife to be a full LDS member, which made me feel like a failure. I hit absolutely rock bottom earlier in the year. My addition was consuming me from within because of a lot of the reasons above, especially loneliness, stress, discouragement and conflict. I am in the process of repentance and now feel comfortable about talking about it with others. I believe confiding in trusted friends/family and daily prayer is the key. My burdens are lighter but I still have a ways to go.

Sleeping in their bedroom is a little weird for me, I would find somewhere else to sleep. You should also do your best not to judge people. 3rd Nephi 1-2 said:

β€œAnd now it came to pass that when Jesus had spoken these words he turned again to the multitude, and did open his mouth unto them again, saying: Verily, verily, I say unto you, Judge not, that ye be not judged.

2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged; and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again..

Give us sinners some slack and be nice to us. Remember, sometimes we need an example and possibly you are the right person to be that example. The Atonement is working for me and I pray that others who read this know they aren’t alone. I felt alone and miserable, just like Adversary wanted me to. I am casting the old Heavy_Laden out and hope a newer, more faithful one takes it’s place.

I would ask you to pray for me, but my real name is not “Heavy_Laden”

I am such a N00b.. I just spent the last half hour roaming the threads of LDS.NET. Hey cwald, I don’t think it’s too hard to get banned from there! It seems that if you get annoying or going against the grain, you join the “Ban Buss”. I realize they may be the biggest LDS forum out there and they need to keep order, but still. If I posted that I am a LDS person going to a CofC Church (and liking it), I would have been shown the door so fast I wouldn’t have even hit the Submit button yet!

I like you, Brothers and Sisters better! :D

My last calling was Sunday School President, I would suggested that a release may be best. In my opinion, GD is one of the hardest callings in the Church and should be changed out if the instructor is getting tired. Adults are hard to teach sometimes, especially since we have all heard these lessons for decades.

Share these thoughts with your SS President, I am sure he can try to find some relief for you. I always tried to follow up with the instructors to see if they were okay.

    Good luck.

Welcome to the forum! There are many understanding people here.

The Temple can be a daunting experience, especially if you weren’t prepared for it. Did you take the Temple Prep class before you went? I took that class and loved the material of it.

I have a hard time with Temples also. I am not saying that it is untrue, but it is just not my thing. I would much rather participate each Sunday serving the Lord instead of doing temple ordinances. My closeness with Heavenly Father involves service and being useful to others around me. I am a problem solver and like that aspect in my life.

I used to have a TR as a youth. I went to the Toronto temple and did baptisms for the dead. As if there was a veil of forgetfulness, those memories are extremely fuzzy. I couldn’t tell you much about my experience, other than fuzzy images of the font and the fact that the jumpsuit didn’t fit me right. I do admire the Temple, I still have a picture of my local one on my wall, but I prefer to admire it from outside.

    Does that make sense?

LOL. Their MP may wonder why their dry cleaning bill is so high.

You know, they might be on to something. We all know they tell the youth that Missionaries is a spiritual experience, but they should also add there is an adventure component as well.

It’s controversy like the “Women and pants” issue that holds the Church back. Micromanaging the congregation is not a good thing. If a Sister wants to wear pants, there should be no controversy regarding it.
