This discussion and makes a lot of sense to me. Since much of church history was white washed in the past, what annoys me now is that many members of the church, even many General Authorities, don’t believe a it was wrong to do this. Some people have used the teaching of line upon line, precept upon precept. But I really believe that relates to gospel teachings, not church history.

Thank you. That makes sense then. I just didn’t know that used to be possible in the temple.

Honestly, I didn’t know the church used to perform time only marriages in temples. I thought it was just sealings. I’m confused now. What time period did the church start performing those?

Well, so far I haven’t been going to church yet, so figuring much of this out is something I’m still working out. A part of me wishes I was a member of the Community of Christ. I’ve been attending their online Sunday services, and they are fantastic. When I was going to church before the COVID hit, I just kept it inside. That gets so hard to do, though, after a while.

Thank you for mentioning the podcast. I read the article, but I definitely need to listen to the podcast. Now, to be fair, a few years ago in my home ward, a guy I knew gave a talk about his garments protecting certain parts of his body. If I remember right, I think it had to do with a chainsaw.

Whenever I see articles like that, I’m not sure how to make sense of it. Jesus Christ and many ancient prophet were against materialism, but realized money was needed at times to do work in the church. However, I believe the main church leadership often acts too much like administrators than ministers. I realize the ancient church’s organization was more flat versus the more hierarchical one of today. Do God or the God’s change their minds? I’m not sure. However, I realize us human beings do change our minds, so doing the right thing may not always be so black and white.

Minyan Man, I’ve never heard that story before, but I know that when Boyd K. Packer was alive he wrote a pamphlet about the temple that showed various temple interiors and what the various rooms were used for.

Gerald, wow! That’s quite a perspective there about death and mourning. I think I might have to check that book out sometime. Thank you.

SamBee, I agree that excitement and mania aren’t happiness. That and people can become addicted to those things. Thanks for letting me know about Asperger’s Disorder. I’ve found some websites that mention the term is being replaced with Autism Spectrum Disorder. When things are finally ultimately under control with the COVID-19, I’m going to see if I can get tested at the local university in my town for ASD.

I hope and pray that this forum won’t end. I don’t comment or post that often. I tend to read more often than post. Being introverted, but enjoying talking with people on a one-on-one basis, the COVID-19 has made it harder for me to want to go out that often. So most of the people I normally see is my parents, which is fine. I just would love to eventually date. Since I’m a hard missionary, I might need to post more often for support. There’s just too many issues I have with the church. Every once in while, I’ve shared with my parents some church issues. Not too many, though. They are too traditional, so I’m afraid that might rock the boat too much. So if this site to keep going, I would love to see it keep going.

Every once in a while, I’ll watch it. I haven’t watched it in a quite a while, though. There are some skits that are hilarious and some that are so-so. Honestly, I could never really get into Saturday Night Live. Though, Dana Carvey as The Church Lady was great. Some members of the church a long time ago, before my faith transition, made there own version of it called It’s Latter-Day Night Live!. Ugh. I thought it was just stupid, really awful.

I agree, Roy, especially with Number 5. I think that’s one of the reasons why the brethren weren’t always so open or honest about our church’s history. One thing I’ve noticed in the standard works is that although the ancient prophets were showed with weaknesses or sins here and there, mostly they seem more like 1-2 dimensional fictional characters than real people. That is annoying.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. Sorry for being late in responding. Interesting, informing perspectives. I was trying to copy some of the comments, but for some reason, some of the pasting is a bit messed up on my end. Oh well. Have a good night, everyone.

Thank for sharing the article, DarkJedi. I’m glad Gong’s son has found peace with his sexuality.

There are so many of these stories. They are sad.

It feels to me like eventually the church leaders will realize they need to pivot and receive “more light and understanding” on this issue.

I hope and pray you’re right, Heber. I have two nephews in Lehi, Utah, that came out gay. Well, the older brother is gay, while the younger one is bisexual. So that might make it hard for them to be members of the church. Fortunately, they seem to get along with brother and sister-in-law. In fact, they work for my brother in a home school business.

I’ve never heard of Ruth Bater Ginsburg. So far, it hasn’t happened with me, but it has for my parents. It had nothing to with employment, though. It had to do with my parents trying to get a new place when they were young, if I remember their story correctly. I think it was a mobile home that they were trying to apply for him. The woman manager had to ask some questions to make sure they weren’t going to be throwing some wild parties, and my parents told her that they didn’t party because they were Mormons. The woman’s countenance dropped and told her they couldn’t have the mobile home. I might gotten what kind of my place they were apply wrong, but, according to my parents, this did happen. I used to be a very black-and-white person when it came to religious prejudice, but, with how my faith has grown with my faith journey, not so much now. If that that kind of intolerance brings persecution, I don’t believe that’s right under any circumstances.
