Since the Bible was widely read, I would naturally expect Joseph t have parts of it memorized. That said if he came to something familiar on the plates, I would expect him to translate using similar phrases he had memorized. This seems very natural to me.
Doesn’t work for me. Just read about this in rough stone tonight. Everyone reported Joseph looked in the hat and saw words and read the sentences then Oliver wrote them. He even spelled out the unusual names…so if Devine then he would have read them as they were written…not as he memorized or was familiar with them.

ParticipantRight there with you hsab. I went pet writer here once I figured out I don’t believe. I read stuff here but don’t post much as u don’t want to tear others down. I have concluded the church is based on nontruth.. I prefer that to lies…I prefer to think of people inadvertently getting off track rather than deliberately misleading. It is extra hard in that my wife is not on the same page so I can’t just start over…so still attending..still teaching eq..and wondering what’s next

ParticipantWow…I find myself speechless. You guys nailed it…and quite succinctly. Can you please teach this to the rest of the church. I would appreciate it if you could compete this soon as it will make my church experience much more enjoyable Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2

Participantchurch0333 You sound like you are in my similar situation. I went from stage 1 -> 5 in a fairly rapid pace. I pretty much am convinced that “the church is a construct of men” to quote Cadence. That being said my wife is TBm and not comfortable with any real conversation about church origins, etc….so I am fully active HT, teach EQ, etc. I to pick and choose the emphasis on my lessons.
I hang mostly with the FB groups of Ex-mo’s, etc. I was only briefly very active in StayLDS, but as I came to accept the truth as I understand it the need died down mostly…though once in a while I feel shaken then I run back here like a runs to his parents room after seeing the boogey man in his closet. Though I mostly lurk you and many others here have really helped me stay along the middle way and I credit the early advice I received from StayLDS as helping me not blow my life up at my initial crash

Participantok…I mean folks can add http to it or go look it up on the other site. I was not very clear I meant was it a good synopsis of the issues that are covered by RSR.
I believe these items are all brought up…though again I have not read lots of the book…more spot reading.
I was just hoping folks could look over the document as to accuracy (though none of the big questions are cut and dried, I know).
As far as the view of leaders, etc…I know the story…I have been around this board since October. I ask questions here when I want a real answer…most other places I get extreme bias one way or the other. I can count on folks here saying “yes…it is accurate and fair, though it doesn’t take into account

Participantjust for clarity…if the offending statement was prepended with “In My Opinion” then it would have been fine? johnh
ParticipantI think the one thing that has not changed is that every generation thinks the world is going to hell in a hand basket. Religion clings to doom so it can offer hope…I think it is human laziness since it is easier to inspire others to join using this method rather than living your truth, having it being you hit, share with your neighbors with no strings attached, then be happy if they find peace in your truth, or be happy they have found pace in some other truth.
This method asked people to come to truth as they are ready, trend to breed open minded thought, and lasting conversion with a sense of fulfillment…though it doesn’t make for large money donating congregations.

ParticipantDang..sound like I should have gone to priesthood session.though currently mostly on bed with disc in my neck pinching a nerve. I found Saturday sessions mostly not that great…especially with bkp starting off with more gay marriage bashing. Bednar left me cold as well. Wonder when they will remember the gospel of love. I was disappointed there was no uchtdorf today…looks like I can read him when they publish priesthood session

ParticipantTwo things up journey girl!! I would love to hear more about heavenly mother and her role. In life mothers are so important but in eternity she sounds like a baby machine…in a stable of them (polygamy in heaven). Thing is we haven’t had a revelation in that sense of the word since Joseph as far as I know.

Boo-yah!
Amen to that. Wish I could get my wife to buy in. She gets real mad when I play freeze face choir jibe. When choir is singing freeze the screen when they do close ups..I try to find the folks making funny faces..freeze them and then make up funny things they could be saying….ok..sometimes I am intellectually a 10 year old

I totally do that too! Too bad we don’t live near each other or we could do our own GC viewing parties! That would be awesome. You are the first to admit to playing that game! Takes a special mix of silly juvenile personality mixed with just a dab of irreverence. Hard to find in a lot of Mormon circles.
