I think you could consider church history a third category.

Last words from Elder Hales, that’s sweet. He was a good egg.

I’ve missed a chunk of conference. Any prayers by women this weekend?

Sorry, Neil, but you’ll never be as cool as JRH and the dinosaur meme 😆

Is it me, or has the average age of the MoTab gotten younger over the last two decades?

Maybe I’m just getting closer to them in age :problem:

True. We do have a bad habit of focusing on happy endings.

But I’m already prone to depression, and tragedies involving children are my worst nightmare, so I need to miss those.

Proactively leaving before he tells a tragic story involving a child.

Why can we never have a General Conference without a bunch of sob stories? It’s really depressing.

Nice shout out to the essays, especially in light of that one Mormon Leaks.

I literally have a long list of questions that no member of the church can answer – not my husband, my bishop or even Pres Monson. This is not coming from some sort of spiritual caterpillar – I thought of all these questions while serving in a calling, paying tithing, and holding a TR. Telling me to just have more faith is simply not helpful.

So I’ll take the mention of the essays and the accent, and leave the rest.

    Anti-anti-Mormonism =/= spiritual nourishment.

Nice accent though. (I just got done rereading The Secret Garden for the millionth time, so as soon as he started talking about foliage I got all excited.)

    ETB: “take marriage seriously”

DD14, with perfect deadpan snark: “No, I think marriage is funny.”

Anyway, I told her that when she’s older, make a list of 10 potential husbands and pursue them all until she narrows it down to one. 😆 Those poor boys won’t know what hit them.

Man, I’ve been up and down the stairs like six times this session. Fortunately DH is sound asleep so he has no idea. 😆

Okay, I’ve missed a big chunk this weekend. How many talks have been given by women during the general sessions? How many prayers?

Does anyone have a reference for why Symonds Ryder (probably spelled that wrong, haha) actually left the church? Was it BCC that posted that?

I don’t necessarily disagree with this talk. I try not to criticize church members for their appearance or their wayward children or how they do their calling. But I will criticize the institutional church for practices that, to my conscience, feel spiritually abusive or unChristlike.

I can already tell that Callister’s talk is going to be a hard pass.

Disproving people who try to disprove the BoM =/= proving that it is true.

I like Elder Ballard’s statement that no trek is more important than the one we are all on.

That’s a nice contrast to the over-the-top pioneer worship that we get every July. That makes people without pioneer ancestors (like me) either roll our eyes or feel inferior.

I like that he’s calling out affinity fraud and medical quackery, both of which are big problems in the church.

You know, I was just thinking about this during one of the talks yesterday. The BoM doesn’t say anything about marriage, and says very little about raising children. It’s silent on the question of SSM, doesn’t say anything about whether it’s wrong to abuse your spouse or children, not one word about p0rn, etc. etc. etc.

On the other hand, the words of Jesus? Especially the part about loving your neighbor like yourself? That’s absolutely universal.
