ParticipantAlso wanted to add, I know what you mean about the guilt though. I have a lot of hang ups about no longer paying tithing. I have basically stopped praying because I feel like because I’m not being obedient and paying my tithing, I’m not entitled to receive blessings or answers to my prayers. Typing that out, I know that sounds ridiculous, why would all of my blessings from Heavenly Father hinge on whether or not I pay tithing?? It doesn’t, but yet it’s been so ingrained in me, I just can’t get past it. November 22, 2018 at 10:24 pm in reply to: Inactive for months due to tithing. ParticipantMy husband and I haven’t paid tithing in a year, and our temple recommends have expired, but we continue to go to church every week. In that time my husband has baptised and confirmed my daughter, and the bishop didn’t bat an eye. I’m sure he is well aware that we don’t hold recommends and no longer pay tithing, but neither he or us has ever brought up the subject. My dad didn’t pay tithing for most of my growing up years, and yet he performed baby blessings and baptisms for all 10 of his children.
I think it’s really heartbreaking that the church has put non tithe paying members into a position that they feel like they cannot attend church.

ParticipantThat would be me! Thank you to everyone who comments and responds. I find so much support and comfort in reading what you all have to say. Kcrumb
ParticipantThanks all for your comments. I don’t know how to respond to some of you specifically but wanted you to know I take a great deal of comfort from your advice and support. I feel I can proceed with courage and even find ways to rejoice in the upcoming event. I like the idea of looking at it as a rite of passage and coming of age. Roy, I had heard that about non tithing and non temple recommend holders sometimes not being allowed to perform the baptismal ordinance and was worried about it. My husband and I have not paid tithing for a year and we have let our temple recommends expire. The bishop has either not noticed, or has chosen to leave us alone about it.

ParticipantI’ve lived in the UK for 10 years and the Church over here is not at all associated with the scouts, although their is a scouting association over here. Kcrumb
ParticipantHi Emy.d!! I feel like I could have written the exact same thing as you. I can absolutely relate to living a double life. Especially as you said: Quote:“My family would most likely give me time and privacy while mourning my dying soul. My in laws would condemn me for ruining their sons life and cursing my daughters future.”
My in-laws are already in complete grief over losing two of their children to inactivity, so they would be devastated if they knew their son was at risk by association with me. I’m a born Utah Mormon but now live in the UK so it’s a little bit easier to be out of that happy valley bubble. No one in my family is near enough to keep tabs on me. Even my ward building is 35 minutes away, so I usually get left alone by ward members.
