ParticipantI think the single thing varies on locality and probably there is no official policy on that. Currently the Church Directory of Leaders does not show Mayes as a counselor but the current bishop listed was from June 2006. Of course, this directory can take a couple of weeks to be updated. I can watch it if you’d like. If this is legit it will show up there. But if it is isn’t it’ll be outed quicker than that on the internets! LOL
I don’t see how this can be a bad thing?

ParticipantIt is surprising but not just for the fact that he is gay but that he is single. I always thought it was a no go for single men to be in bishoprics. observant

ParticipantRe: Boring Sacrament Meetings The problem is this is all subjective. We go over to visit friends usually each Sunday evening. Often we voice whether the SM was a hit or a bomb and each time we all usually have different opinions. You cannot please all of the people all of the time. What I consider a great speaker someone else might actually hate and vice versa.

ParticipantCongrats on your mission call. It sounds like you are going for the right reasons for you and that you will make it a very good experience for yourself and those you teach. I printed off Silent Dawning’s info and the info from the link to send to my son who is currently serving a mission. Lots of good stuff there. observant

ParticipantI was in a meeting (at work) this week and a story was shared about David B. Haight. He pointed to a picture of the Savior and said (I wont’ quote) The Savior I know had a small neck and his clothing more tannish than red. (end of non-quote) This leaving the impression that he had actually seen Jesus Christ. This being told to us third hand. From Elder Haight to another church official who shared it with the person in our meeting (and his son). No idea what I think of it really. It’s not something I find particularly faith building but I think for a lot of people it is. Maybe if it was first hand…

ParticipantAhh, you belong to one of those sucky wards. I’m sorry. You didn’t need my lecture I’m sure but I think it may apply to some people who feel left out. How old are your children now?

ParticipantKatzpur wrote:Old-Timer wrote:The central plot is that two missionaries go to Africa – one a hardcore traditionalist and one a more relaxed . . . non-traditionalist. The traditional one thinks the world’s problems can be solved by smiling and praying and being happy and obedient, but they encounter people who, for example, sing a song entitled (literally), “F*** You, God”.
See, I think I could handle pretty much anything except that song.Exactly! But if it was in a different language then I wouldn’t know! So maybe we would still be okay.

ParticipantI agree, Bridget, that F&T isn’t always the best meeting for newbies. I’m not sure he actually listened to much of it. But it was an interesting meeting because we had one investigator bear his testimony. That’s always a change. -
