ParticipantThat’s so funny. When I first read you wanted to be a priest I thought you meant a Catholic Priest! Peaceandjoy
ParticipantWow Ray, What an amazing father and example for you. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your dad.

ParticipantThanks Ray, Sorry, I tend to react emotionally without reading the whole thing carefully.
Thanks Just me, I want to get to the point where I am following my inner compass. I tend to want someone to tell me what to do. I need to learn to trust in myself, which is hard for me for some reason.

ParticipantRay, I’m not sure how I feel about what you said.. So, we just do these things even if we don’t believe in them just to make others happy?

ParticipantWendell, What everyone said is great! I especially liked what Brian said about being the stronger one and more Christlike one. My heart goes out to you but hopefully down the road, you will have a more honest and open relationship. Good luck!!!

ParticipantMormonmom, I am so very sorry you had to go through what you did. I can’t even imagine it. You were young and you didn’t even know what you were doing. I believe that God is a loving God. He knows you and loves you just for who you are.

ParticipantThanks so much for this thread. I love music and one of my favorite hymns has always been ” Lord, I Would Follow Thee”. It touches me because it helps me to remember that no one is perfect and only God know’s our hearts and what we have been through so I can’t judge anyone. And also to be gentle, kind and loving with everyone and help whenever I can. Peaceandjoy

ParticipantIt is so interesting. I’ve been thinking lately why people still stay in the church even if they believe something else. A lot here were born in the church so socially it is your tribe (as you call it) . I was born in the Catholic church. I went to Catholic grade school and high school. All my memories, traditions etc. are in the Catholic church. When I visit my mom I go to Mass with her and I get a feeling like I’m coming home. So, when I learned the history of the church it was easier for me to dismiss the things that I don’t believe anymore. But, I have a husband and children that are very TBM and that is because they have been raised and their home is in the church and so I stay, really, for them. We all have our own experiences that make us think and feel the way we do.
But, I basically think that God is a very loving God and he knows our hearts. He knows that we are trying our best to find out what we believe.
That is why we can’t judge anyone for the way they believe.
