Well, that is the obvious solution. But my daughter is very excited to go, and won’t be talked out of it.

My concern isn’t so much about my going, but that the youth are going to be subjected to this level of irresponsibility, and that parents who don’t have this information have placed an undeserved trust in leaders to take care of and respect their children.

I’m not sure why women cant wear a bra first and the garment top second.

They can! There is no ‘official’ word on this, and the unofficial teaching (usually whispered through a changing room door, and up to the whim of the temple worker on duty) is slowly changing. Wearing a bra under the cotton camisoles with no lace on them is the most comfortable have ever been while wearing g’s.

You can also wear panties under your bottoms as needed.

I decided to renew my temple recommend, and to me that meant keeping my covenants regarding garments, i.e. wearing them night and day. As an added bonus, ‘cuz I’m super duper awesome πŸ˜† I even wear them every night and day.

What I don’t do is wear them all night or all day.

Regarding the instructions is not to take them off for anything that might be reasonably be done while wearing them, I think going outside in the summer is not something that can reasonably done while wearing garments.

I would be over the moon if they changed the top to spaghetti straps. OVER THE MOON.

With all due humility, I taught the lesson in Relief Society, and it was pretty awesome, and didn’t mention the priesthood once.

After reading through the manual and crossing out many sections that I simply refused to teach, I focused on this quote “β€œIt is difficult to imagine what we should have done, or what progress the work of the Lord would have made, without them” From chapter 13 of the Lorenzo Snow manual.

Then I talked about women in the history of the scriptures and what we can learn from their examples:

The Hebrew midwives who disobeyed by not killing the male children

Deborah the Judge of Israel who lead the people into battle and Jael who brought a whole new meaning to stake temple night.

    Mary the mother of Jesus

The women who were the first witnesses of Christ

Abish, who stayed strong in her testimony, even though all alone. (and Lamoni’s wife)

The daughters of the Nephites who were sent to stop the Lamanites from slaughtering their people.

The early pioneer women, many of whom crossed the plains alone because their husbands were with the Battalion or on missions.

Then talked about the 3 pillars of the church

The Creation: Crowning creation was woman

The Fall: Eve gets all the credit for figuring out this one

The Atonement: Women were the first witnesses of the resurrection.

The problem is that what people are told is up to the whim of the temple worker who talks to them that day.

I would really like if what was written stayed the same, and nothing was added to it.

What we really need is consistency!

    Wikipedia to the rescue!

According to a undocumented statement, wine was used commonly up until 1912, and in some place until 1922 according to the comments (a couple years after the start prohibition which did allow the use of sacramental wine.)

I hope you find peace joy and love on your journey, and I hope you stay around here.

And know that there are those people still in the church working to make the church a better place.

So I wonder what would happen now, if I, as a mother administered to my children in this way?

Suppose my local leaders found out about it, what do you think the response would be?

Is it officially banned anywhere? Or just not done anymore?

A lot of times in wards the efforts to welcome people make it very hard for people to fit in.

People are so happy to see a new face that they tend to single them out for special attention. Usually this dies down after a couple of weeks though, when people get used to your presence.

I think that most wards have people that have similar struggles and beliefs as you. Sadly, people learn from experience to not talk about it too much, so it is hard to find each other.

In general, I hope that this project is a new step in the church having the courage to open the doors on its history and allow real dialogue to take place.

This project, if nothing else seems, to be focused on quality scholarly research and opening doors rather than closing them.

Interesting! If the original is copyrighted, IMO that is all the better reason to commission a totally different statue, not something that is trying to look like the original.

Shawn, point taken. I struggled with how to word that. They do and believe many things because of the church that aren’t taught by the church. If that makes sense.

I’m not really sure how to describe their family or their beliefs.

I just hope he knows that there are people for him that will love him.

They twisted the same story in the movie “Legacy” She prayed for the ox, but didn’t lay hands on it.

    Quote:

But then, commission a new work of art, don’t make bad copies and tell your visitors that it is a “copy of the original is SLC” as I was told when I saw it. My preference would be that the Church not make any copies at all. Something that iconic should exists as a singular. Making a copy for each VC just cheapens it. I would prefer each VC have its individual and diverse focal point, appropriate for its own setting. But if the Church is going to make “copies” they should try not to make bad ones. If they want a different Jesus, then make a different piece of art.

    +1

This reminds me of the people that edited the paintings the Sistine chapel. If the art doesn’t suit your needs, there is nothing wrong with commissioning something that does, there is something wrong with changing it.

    1) Don’t approach the family member about it proactively. Don’t take it upon yourself to support someone openly who hasn’t come out, especially if you aren’t 100% certain.

    2) Talk in the person’s presence about acceptance and unconditional love, regardless of whatever issues might exist – but don’t be obsessive about it and do it in other situations, as well, so it’s not obvious you are targeting one person and/or family with that message.

Point #1 is exactly why this is a difficult situation. It would be totally out of line to say something about it up front to him.

I love #2 though, this really is a message that needs to be heard more often in the church anyway.
