Take the calling and then do good by speaking your mind in bishopric and ward council meeting. The Bishop will either take your advice or grow tired of you and relase you.

    Items you can speak to:

    1. When they are talking about trying to reactivate somebody, remind them that the person might have deep seeded reasons for not wanting to come to church, and no amount of feel good visits is going to change that. Quote Uchtdorf from his GC talk, “it’s not that simple”

    2. Make sure correlation council does not turn into a gossip session about a family.

    3. Bring up the church essays from LDS.org as often as you can insert them into conversations in meetings.

    4. Tell them that temple worship is not universally loved by the members, and that some find no enlightenment by going. Give those people their space.

    5. Don’t be a “yes man” in meeting with the bishop. If you don’t agree, tell him, and explain why

    6. Remind the Bishop that the youth interviews can be “two deep”, and suggest that a parent or guardian be in every interview for “his protection”

After I was realsed as Bishop a lady in my ward waned me to preform the wedding of her daughter. Since I was no longer a bishop I had to go to the court house and get “deputized” as a county clerk for one day so I could perform it. It was $75 here in California which the mother of the bride paid

So, as I interpret the new program, if you “Like” somebodies Facebook post, that can count as “Ministering” Same with a “Heart” on Instagram. I love this! 😆

If you had asked your SP a few weeks ago why the HP were separate form the Elders, you would have gotten all kind of justification using D&C and the BofM. He would have told you about the different roles each play, and why they need to be separate. Fast forward to today, and it’s all out the window.

So with no PEC, is this a Sunday with no other meeting except for Bishopric meeting? How often is correlation meeting held? This was the biggest time consumer when I was Bishop. Every Sunday we had bishopric meeting, then PEC or correlation.

First time it explicitly says that the youth can have another adult (parent) in an interview. Many stories of Bishops pushing back when parents ask to be in the interview. I wonder how this will be conveyed to parents/children that they have a choice?

So, it was 7/8 good-excellent and 1/8 bad.

My advice: Anything that is 87.5% good is good. Focus on that simple fact.

That is not what the church teaches about R rated movies. If the movie is 99% good, but that one scene is bad, then its just like having a little bit a poop in your brownie. See this excellent blog post on Poop Cookies here at BCC

Sheldon — that article is way too long and verbose for me….do you have a quick comment or expose on what the point is of it?

The condensed version of the article is that tithing on surplus, profit, gain, extra, or growth may be a tithing method with some historical support.

Yes, you pay tithing on what is left over after you’ve paid all your bills (the surplus)

If I don’t have a recommend how do I buy garments? Can my wife just buy them for me? Am I not supposed to wear garments anymore?

All you need is a membership number to buy garments online. If you walk into a distribution center, they just look up your name to confirm you are endowed. You don’t have to have a TR or even be active to buy them

Here is a very nuanced way of looking at tithing found at Pure Mormonism blog . I am NOT endorsing this method of calculating your tithing, but only offer it up as another way some people are doing it.

There are two ways to pay “online” One is through the church’s web site “LDS.org”. The bishop will see everything you pay (or don’t pay) via this method. The other way is through “bill pay” via your financial institution. This requires the financial department at the COB to set up a bill pay account for you. It takes some paperwork, and they do not advertise it since it requires more manual labor on their side. But this method is complete anonymous if you request it, and the ward sees nothing. This was implemented for very wealthy donors to pass money to the church without a nosey bishop seeing what was going on.

But the bill pay is very easy to use, and is set up just like any other bill pay account you have with your bank. I have it set up for myself (not that I’m wealthy), and all I do is go to my credit union web site, and click the bill pay tab, and then select LDS Tithing, and enter an amount. It transfers directly from my credit union account to the church.

Not to be cynical, but what else could he have said? And if he said anything else but, would have DN published it?

What if he said he was disappointed in not being called back into the FP, but he was going to support the new FP in any way he could. Would they have published that? What if he said he has always butted heads with Nelson, so it was not a surprise he wasn’t called back to the FP?

the 70 are also GA’s. Uchtdorf is an Apostle, so he moves back to the Q12.
