The currency of obedience.I don’t know what I was expecting him to say, but it certainly wasn’t that. Much wow. This talk is all about God’s grace. Easter talk through and through.

So sorry to hear you’re sick today. Hope you feel better soon. Remember, you can go back and watch DFU’s talk tomorrow.
Thanks, MJ.
Taking a nap means getting up from where I am now and going upstairs, so it takes just as much energy right now to sit through the talk as it does to go nap, haha.

ParticipantI really enjoyed a lot of Elder Holland’s talk. Particularly the story of the brothers. Elder Holland has always been one of my favorite speakers in just how he speaks; he’s so animated and passionate. He talks of a literal Adam and Eve and the Fall tied with Christ and Easter. His emphasis is Easter and Christ. Whether you believe the literal doctrine or not, this is a talk to listen to rather than read for Elder Holland’s presentation of it.
Edit: Gosh, this man is so good with the structure of his talks. Just…so good.

ParticipantHaha, the official LDS Church Twitter already has that quote from Teixeria I mentioned up above posted on a pretty picture and uploaded on Twitter. Someone was busy during the song. West
ParticipantJose Teixeira of the Seventy is next. This talk had some good focus on Christ, but the primary mission was discussing online habits, encouraging members to use their online time to interact with the Church’s online presence (and also to put away your electronic devices and take a break for once, which…yeah, I’m guilty of not doing that, haha). “Life is not confined to a four-inch screen.”
The combined point of the talk was to turn our online habits more towards building our faith and testimony in Christ. This comes at an interesting time. The “challenge” that all the Temple Square missionaries are giving to everyone who talks to them this weekend is to use the #becausehelives social tag everywhere and share the HeLives.Mormon.Org link. They have those little blue pass along cards with the info.

ParticipantHuh. So. The Primary general president Rosemary Wixom started her talk by telling a story of a sister who became less active while trying to figure out what she believed; the sister read a book about Mother Teresa and faith. “She can focus on the truths she did believe, and let those truths fill her mind and heart.”
Waiting to see this talk to its end now.
Edit: OK, some stuff in her talk might not sit well with some people (like some standard Church answers, finding answers in quiet simple, assurances). But you can pick and choose some good things out of this talk. There was some particular great sentences that I think would resonate strongly with some.
Edit 2: I’m trying to remember my favorite line. It came right after the quote I already posted up above. It was something about how the sister’s testimony was burned to ashes, and all that remained was Jesus Christ. It reminded me a LOT of Chieko Okazaki for just a brief moment there and her love and focus for Christ to let her ignore some of the tougher parts of Mormon culture. Appropriate for Easter Sunday, I’d say.

ParticipantPres. Monson looks so much older. But he’s just as good a speaker now as he was before. He mentions that this conference marks seven years since he was sustained a prophet. I also love his message of peace like Ray mentioned above; his line about going to the temple to find peace stood out to me particularly, but that’s because I’m doing my initiatory in a couple weeks. Ah Pres. Monson, it’s always good to listen to him.

ParticipantWell, since I was in the center and could kind of hear where the shouts were coming from, I can guarantee no one on the stand would have seen the dissenters if they had just raised their hands. There was at least one on the higher balcony in my area, and everyone looks like a tiny ant up there. I was expecting more shouting, actually, but when they shouted once, they quit. I was wondering, though, if the fact the shouts got less and less with each new request for sustaining was because they didn’t oppose to the “lesser” level callings, or if they were escorted out/told to be quiet. Regardless, thanks for the article!

ParticipantOur valley is so closed in by mountains and elevation that our lilacs haven’t quite decided to come out, even while the fruit trees are blooming like crazy. Thanks for the lovely picture and the wishes. Happy Easter springtime to everyone!

Hopefully you are going to a mission that uses iPads!
I have a friend who’s ex works in the IT security department of the Church. He’s told her a few times that he wishes the Church would trust their missionaries more, because the amount of software the Church puts on every single piece of electronics is just insane. Don’t know why I mention that now, except nooo I don’t want an iPad, I’m hoping to leave most of my dependency on technology behind for 18 months.
Paper copies, ftw!West
ParticipantThat is…really bizarre, I agree. West

ParticipantAnyway, finally have a moment to sit on my phone again. Agreed that Saturday afternoon had some excellent moments that I personally enjoyed, and those moments for me came from the three Seventies who talked. I loved the one about saints and sinners and trying. That part in Cook’s talk you all mentioned already is where I just turned off from the session. It was close enough to the end that as soon as he went that way I nope’d the opposite direction.

I’m listening on an audio only feed that drops from time to time so I miss who says what but one talk had one blurb that I felt stood up against traditional family roles in declaring that men and women are equal
in authority. I wish I could remember who and what specifically. That maaaay have been the same talk a sentence or two after.
